How To Have Camp Style Without Spending Too Much Money
If you just watched all of the incredible outfits worn by all of our favorite celebs at the Met Gala, then you know camp style is in! And we are not talking about a flannel and hiking boots! This unique and ironic style consists of clothes that are supposed to be ugly, but are trendy because they are so different! However, we cannot all walk down the streets in dresses made out of thousands of feathers. This is how to have camp style without spending to much money so you can stay in style, but still have money in the bank!
1. Thrifting
As Macklemore will tell you, thrifting is an age old way to shop that has millennials sporting cute clothes that they bought for a quarter at Goodwill. Some people think shopping here is not very hygienic and can be kind of icky. My advice to you? Don’t buy the underwear! Other than that just throw it in the washing machine and it is as good as new. Check Pinterest or your fav camp stylist’s IG and hit a thrift store. You can find some pretty great items that will give you a camp style that you can walk down the street and feel stylish in. 2. Be creative
You can find the perfect piece anywhere, but the first step to doing this is having a little creativity. Camp style is all about finding beauty in things that are not so socialized. If you find a shirt that you like, but it is made for a giant, make it into a crop top, or wear it large with some leggings. If it is nicer, maybe you can make it into a dress! When you are shopping for your camp style clothes, creativity is really going to get you the most for your money. You are going to see so many articles of clothing, but instead of going to name brand stores to buy great, but expensive things, you can pick up clothing that is not as attractive right away and transform it into something beautiful. There are so many simple ways to alter clothes to make them so that they make you feel confident. All if takes is a little creativity and access to YouTube tutorials!
3. Keep an open mind
Camp style requires someone with an open mind. The items of clothing for camp style are camp style because they are not what is normally perceived to be beautiful! That is one of the great aspects of this style. It allows people to express themselves in a way that is different than the mold of beautiful. This can help you when you are sifting through your closet, at a thrift store, or going through a friends old clothes. However you are choosing to obtain your clothing for cheap you should be able to find potential in more than what is average rather than shutting it down at first glance because not everyone else is wearing it.
4. Shop EVERYWHERE
Do not limit yourself to your typical stores even if they have clothes that can fit into camp style. Zara, Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, Nordstrom all have clothing that can create a camp style and some of them might not even be that expensive! Especially if you go to Forever 21 or Nordstrom Rack, but do not limit yourself to these stores that everyone will be shopping at. Go EVERYWHERE go to that one place your mom always shops and you’ll never understand, go to Marshall’s TJ Maxx, the GAP literally everywhere you go you can find at least 1 piece of clothing that will fall under camp style. Name brands that were not as popular before are becoming more popular and it is because of this ironic style. No matter what you wear or where it’s from you cannot be wrong for wearing it. That is what is so nice about this style is everyone can have their own personal spin on it. Shopping everywhere is going to guarantee you get the most bang for your buck because you will be able to find the absolute best prices that you can afford!
