A tapestry can really take the white, cement block walls of your dorm room from cold to cozy. It adds atmosphere, is a nice splash of color, and will always provide you with the perfect background for your Instagram. The only issue? They always fall down! Keep reading to figure out how to hang a tapestry in a dorm room that it will never fall down.
First, you are obviously going to need to pick out the perfect tapestry. Some black and white tapestries are really chic, and some more colorful tapestries look really nice with a string of fairy lights.
Once you have picked out your tapestry, you have to figure out how to hang it! Tacks will leave holes in your wall and put you at risk for getting written up by your RA. Tape just… does not work. And silly putty barely ever sticks to the fabric of the tapestry.
So, what’s the best method to go with?
Velcro! Yes, velcro.
Velcro strips are often used to hang pictures without having to use any sort of nail, but they work just as well for tapestries. Look for velcro strips that state that they are “damage-free” so that you can make sure you are not going to take any paint off of your walls.
Next, peel off the backing of a velcro strip and place one strip in each of the four corners of your tapestry. Grab a step stool and start by sticking the top two corners first. Have your roommate or friend stand behind you so they can make sure you are hanging the tapestry evenly.
After you have done the top two, stick the bottom two to the wall. Make sure you are not sticking them too low so that your tapestry has a bit of a flow to it.
For an extra cute touch, add some fairy lights along the top of your tapestry! Be careful to only use one strand, though, or else you could be written up for an extension cord violation. (Trust me, I know this from experience!)
