Getting over an ex can be tough. We’ve all probably been there at some point, even if some people won’t admit it, it can sometimes feel like you’re never going to get over your ex and you start to wonder what the heck you’re going to do. Well, let me tell you first that it won’t last forever and with time and patience you will eventually get there. Sure, it might take a while and it’ll be hard, but you will get over them and it will be okay. But if you’re looking for some tips to help you on your way, here are some tips to finally get over that ex that you’re well and truly hung up on.
It can be really difficult, it’s often a big battle between your heart that’s saying “I just want to speak to them on more time” and your brain that’s saying “no, this is a bad idea”. Well, let me tell you, your brain is right in this instance. Even if it’s just to ask them something trivial, don’t ever be tempted to call, text or speak to your ex in real life because it’ll just be two steps backwards.
It’s easy to get hung up thinking about all the good times with your ex, but usually, it’s the rose-tinted glasses clouding your view. Remember that you broke up for a reason – focus on that and keep reminding yourself why it ended in the first place. You don’t necessarily have to hate your ex, but just keep in mind why it’s best for you guys not to be together to help you get over it,
Stop checking their social media and asking mutual friends about them. It’s not good for your mental health to be obsessing over someone like that and it won’t get you anywhere. Unfollow or mute their social media and ask your friends not to mention them in future – even if you ask! Think Inbetweeners and Jay hitting Simon every time he mentions Carly. Stop centering your life around them, you’ll never get over them like that.
This one can be tough, but it is definitely for the best. You don’t necessarily have to throw away all your memories of your relationship – these can be nice to look back on when you’re old – but put them away in a box and hide them away in the bottom of your wardrobe or in the loft. They’re better off out of sight as they’ll just make your rose-tinted glasses come out again and you’ll be reminiscing on the good stuff while totally forgetting all the times they hurt you.
Don’t make the mistake of moving on too early as often you’re doing it for all the wrong reasons and it’ll just lead to further heartbreak. However, when you do feel ready, you have to try and find someone new as it is the best way to truly move on once and for all. Just make sure that when you do move on, that getting over your ex isn’t your only motivation as that usually doesn’t end well.
