How To Feel Comfortable Having Your Photo Taken

Having your photo taken is no big deal so why do so many of us run off in the other direction the moment that we see a camera lens pointing at us? There’s no reason to be camera shy and don’t worry, with these top tips, you’ll be photo ready in no time at all. Here’s how to feel comfortable having your photo taken.

Practice, practice, practice

One of the best ways to get comfortable with having your photo is to keep practising. All too often, we don’t like having our photos taken because we don’t know how to act. Therefore practising taking them by yourself is a good place to start. When you’ve got some free time, try taking some selfies or timer photos at home so that you can work out what angles and poses feel natural for you.  That way when it comes to taking photos out and about, you won’t feel like you’ve been put on the spot.

Have fun

Photos are great ways to capture all of your amazing memories and having your photo taken should never be stressful. The next time you’re taking your pics, remember to have fun with it. You could turn taking travel pictures into a silly photo shoot, channel your inner model or just have a laugh.  A photo where you’re having fun is going to look a lot more natural than a posed photograph of you just looking at the camera anyway.

Move about

Standing still in front of the camera is enough to make anyone feel awkward so one of the best things to do if you feel insecure about having your photo taken, is to keep moving around. Laugh, turn around and just do whatever feels comfortable for you. I guarantee that you’ll feel a lot more relaxed and what’s more, you’ll probably get some nicer, more natural photos anyway.

Address the underlying issues

If you feel deeply insecure about having your photo taken then you may want to look at the underlying issues. What are you stressed about? Do you not like the way that you look or are you worried about how others perceive you? Very often, low self-esteem plays a huge part in being camera shy and addressing this will help you feel more confident both in and out of the camera.

There are loads of ways to boost your self-esteem but a good place to start is to focus on the things you do like about yourself. Whether it’s your witty sense of humour, your hair or your height, focusing on the good points rather than dwelling on your insecurities is bound to make you feel a lot more confident.

Pose with others

Sometimes, having a photo taken by yourself can be embarrassing as you feel that there’s too much pressure on you or that everybody’s watching. If you feel like this, then try and get a few of your friends in the photo with you. That way the pressure’s off and you can just focus on having fun and capturing your memories.

Fake it until you make it

Feeling camera shy is totally normal and even Instagram influencers feel self-conscious in front of the camera now and again. Try giving all of these tips a go and in the meantime, you might have to fake it until you make it. Even if you don’t feel comfortable, just flash a killer smile and own it. You’ll probably find that the more confident you look, the more confident you’ll feel in yourself.

There’s no reason to feel uncomfortable having your photo taken so don’t shy away from the camera. Whether you’re taking photos on your travels or a night out with your friends, photos are little snapshots of your life and you’ll only regret it after if you don’t take them.
