How To Effectively Spend Your Time At Home

Looking to effectively spend your time at home? I can tell you one thing, you’ll have to stop laying around binge-watching Netflix. It’s harder to be productive when staying at home, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. So get up, get out of bed and get ready to take on the day. The key to staying happy is keeping busy! Here are the best ways to occupy your free time, without leaving the house. Let’s see how much you can accomplish from home.

Braid Hair

For those of you with long, luscious locks, use this time to learn how to control your hair. Braids are so stylish and a great way to keep your hair pulled away from your face. It’s not the easiest skill to learn, and that’s why not everyone knows how to do it. Use your free time to sit down in front of a mirror, comb through your hair and learn French, Dutch, or waterfall braids. There are so many kinds to try, so why not give it a shot? You’re sure to use this skill for the rest of your life. For braid tutorials, click here

Try New Makeup Looks

Chances are, you’re not wearing your everyday makeup to just sit around the house. If you have enough makeup to play around with, try out new looks! Practicing new eyeshadow, eyeliner and contour looks will make you a professional by the time this is all over. So pull up a chair in front of your mirror and get going, girl! Make sure to snap some selfies after so you have something to throw on your Instagram. For a variety of makeup tutorials, click here!

Learn Sign Language

Learning sign language is such a cool and useful skill. Not many people are educated in the language, so it’s pretty special to be someone who is. Spend your free time becoming fluent in speaking with your hands. There are many resources online that can help you learn the language! Click here to see how you can learn sign language from the comfort of your home.

Take an Online Course

Why not use your free time to earn a certificate in an online course? No matter what your interests are, there’s probably an online course for you. Between graphic design courses, business courses, science, communication, or computer science courses you are sure to find something to fit your passion. Not only will you be certified after a few weeks of classes, but it’s a great addition to your resume! I highly suggest taking a course during your time stuck at home. You can thank me later.

Start a Blog

Do you have a passion you want to share with the world? Whether it’s food, fashion, beauty or fitness pick up your laptop and write about it! Blogs are so fun and a great way to update friends and family with what you’ve been doing. This can be a large commitment of your time between creating content, images, and social media for the blog, but is highly rewarding. If you want to show the internet your favorite fashion trends or the best Halloween dessert recipes, consider creating a blog while you’re at home!

Declutter Closets

Staying at home means lots of cleaning and organizing. Closets are one of the biggest projects to tackle and will keep you busy all day long. Try pulling everything out and starting with an empty closet. Sort through your clothes, deciding what to keep and what to give away, and use bins/shelves for storage. Recreating your closet will feel so good and will cut back on how long it takes you to get ready in the morning. Don’t spend any more time digging around for your favorite sweater, just get organized instead!

Paint Your Room

New room, new me. I love redoing my bedroom, whether it means moving the furniture around or changing the color of the walls every other year. Painting walls is so time-consuming, you’re sure to keep busy for days. If you don’t want to change the colors of your walls, I recommend buying chalkboard paint and painting areas of your office, kitchen or basement with it. It’ll give you a great space to write to-do lists and create calendars, as well as a fun spot for guests to leave notes!

Practice Art

Have you always wanted to be skilled at art but never had the time to sit down and practice? Well, honey, that time is now. Order as many canvases, paintbrushes, and colored pencils as you need and get creating! It might be tough at first, but practice makes perfect. You never know what kind of talents you can uncover! Maybe you’ll give your artistic sister a little competition she didn’t think she’d have. You’re sure to love whatever creations you come up with and can use them to decorate your room.

Self Care

Taking time to better myself is number one on my stay-at-home list. Showers, face masks and DIY manicures, I’m here for all of it. Make sure to take this time to take care of yourself. Don’t wear makeup, keep up with your skincare routines, practice great hygiene. Use this time to create the best version of you. Don’t forget about lemon water! Keep a bottle with you all day long. It’s a great source of vitamin C and will keep you extremely hydrated.

Clean Out Your Car

Cleaning out your car is a great activity for a nice day. It’ll allow you to get some fresh air while staying productive! Empty all the old coffee cups, straw wrappers, and dirty napkins from inside your car. Get a vacuum and clean out all the dog hair, crushed up leaves and any dirt that’s lying around your car. Use disinfectant wipes to wipe down your steering wheel, mirrors, buttons, and door handles. Your car will look good as new. If it’s nice out, use a hose, sponge, and car soap and scrub the outside till it’s shiny-clean!

Train Your Dog

Does your dog need a little extra doggy daycare? While you’re stuck at home, why not teach your furry BFF a few new tricks? I love spending time with my dog, whether it’s taking him on walks, to the beach, or laying with him on the kitchen floor. I can admit, he does need a little help when it comes to listening. Use this time to train your dog on walks or around the house. Reward him with tiny training treats to keep him motivated. Your pup will be bowing-down to you by the time you’re done with him.

At-Home Workouts

Just because the gyms are closed doesn’t mean you can’t get into shape! Summer is just around the corner, so don’t let being trapped inside your house stop you from your fitness goals. Follow along to workout videos or virtual yoga from right inside your house. Use household items such as milk cartons, wine bottles or heavy baskets for make-shift weights, and if it’s nice out, go for a walk, run, or bike ride! With all this free time, don’t let the closed gyms be your excuse out of a workout. You’ve got this.

Repurpose Old Clothes

While you were decluttering your closet did you find any old, oversized sweatshirts? How about any sweatpants or t-shirts that you don’t wear anymore? Let’s see how you can recreate these into something more trendy. Bleaching and tie-dying your old clothes can be so much fun and will give new meaning to your old wardrobe.
