As we progress through college and hold internships and jobs, we have to revise our wardrobe. I’m not just talking about professional clothing pieces. I’m also talking about everyday clothes. It’s time to search for universal pieces that are both fun but practical, and there are ways to up our wardrobe game without spending an arm and a leg. 1. Take Inventory of Your Closet

Before you even think about shopping, you need to take inventory of your closet. This is a way to make sure you don’t add something to your wardrobe that you already have. Also by going through your wardrobe, you are faced with the reality that you need to get rid of a few things. Anything that has holes, stains, or looks dated needs to go.

Once you go through your closet make a list of things that you need. Make a list of basics, quality items, shoes, and accessories. This will make shopping easier on you.

2. Shop The Sale Section

My mom always taught me to explore the sales rack. You never know what you’re going to find. You’ll be amazed. I’ve seen everything from significantly reduced designer pieces to basics in the sales section. Don’t rule out this section because you can find some of the best pieces there.

Also don’t be afraid to shop at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, or Ross – they have great items! Another place to find quality items are resale stores. There are hundreds of gems lying around there. Just make sure you’re buying something because you like it, not because it’s on sale.

3. Know Where to Spend & Save

As I said shop the sale section or a discount store to find these quality items at a reasonable price. Your accessories say a lot about you, so make sure they look good. Style quality accessories with a typical outfit to spice it up!

5. Take Care of Your Clothing

To dress nice but not break the bank you need to make sure you’re taking care of your clothing. If you’re not separating colors and whites, not taking dry clean only items to the cleaner, or not tailoring your clothes to you, you’re doing yourself a disadvantage. Your clothing is going to get disorientated and won’t look their best on you.

Of course, if you’re not following the washing instructions, your clothing will not last. Along with that get your clothing tailored or it will not fit your body correctly. Take care of your clothes, it’ll make them look nicer!
