We’ve gone over dressing for a specific occasion, but now we’re going to go over how to dress for a specific holiday. Dressing up for the holidays can be fun but also tricky so it’s important to know what’s appropriate and what’s not. Luckily, this lesson is simple enough for anyone to follow.
Thanksgiving is a nationwide holiday celebrated on various dates and in various countries like The United States, Canada, Grenada, Saint Lucia, and Liberia. Thanksgiving began as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest for the preceding year. Similar named holidays also can occur in Germany and Japan. Although Thanksgiving has a historical connection in many religious and cultural traditions, it has long been celebrated as a temporal holiday as well. Nowadays, Thanksgiving is more associated with giving thanks to the ones around us, like our friends and family. When going to a Thanksgiving dinner, depending on your religion dressing up can be tricky. For religious people who celebrate this holiday, one would typically wear something similar to what the family will wear like something similar to a nun outfit. Many religions do this to show respect. In the United States the attire for a Thanksgiving event or dinner would be more casual as everyone is more focused on celebrating each other.
When getting dressed for a Thanksgiving event it’s best to wear something casual because you’ll be doing lots of moving around and talking to people. With them being said you want to wear something you can sit comfortably in, as when it’s time to eat you’ll most likely be sitting for the Marjory of the night. For women wearing something fall-like would be expectable for the holidays. Women should consider wearing skinny jeans with long brown boots, any long sleeve shirt that matches the boots, and a chic hat to put the outfit together with some added accessories of course. Men can wear more loose or fitted clothes like jeans, a flannel, with boots or casual loafers. Something not casual enough to go out on a random day, but something where people can tell you’re going to an event.
Everyone’s favorite holiday, Christmas, is a festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ that takes place on December 25 as a religious and cultural celebration by billions of people around the globe. Christmas Day is a public holiday in many countries and is celebrated religiously by a majority of Christians, as well as many non-Christians, and forms an important part of the holiday season. When invited to a Christmas dinner, surprisingly the options are limitless, as it’s the perfect time to display color and beauty. In America people often love to go all out for Christmas and throw lavish parties that include only the closest people in their lives like friends and family. With that being said, wearing something that is comfortable but elegant will be the best option as many Christmas parties take place inside or outside and even both.
Dressing up for a Christmas event is fun and in many ways trivial. Because it’s cold you’ll want to wear something warm, but Christmas parties are often set inside so the fire or some type of heat will be active. Women should consider wearing something chic and patterned like a matching plaid set with heels and accessories that match the surrounding area. Something like gold jewelry and a hat would be praised. For Christmas, Matching sets are actually very acceptable. With that being said men could wear something similar or even the same, just with a more masculine look. Red plaid is often a good traditional pattern to lean toward when thinking about buying an outfit. Men like women can also switch it up with more layers like fur coats and parkas. Finding these pieces should be easy as they sell plenty of warm clothes during the holidays.
New Year’s is one of the oldest holidays still celebrated, but like Christmas the exact date and nature of the festivities has shifted over the decades. New Years originated thousands of years ago in ancient Babylon and was celebrated as an eleven day festival starting on the first day of spring. During this era, many people used the sun and moon cycle to decide the first day of the year. Celebrated on January 1st, the first day of the New Year, following both the Gregorian and the Julian calendar. Today this holiday is often celebrated with fireworks, parades, reflection upon the last year, and more depending on the culture. Getting prepared for a New Years event can be the most exciting thing, as there are a variety of different things to do and places to go. Because New Years is the last day of the previous year, many folks like to go to parties and celebrate the countdown. The most famous location for the countdown is Time Square located in New York. But you’ll also hear about a lot of people going to clubs or family events to see the fireworks.
New Years is the time to show off your most flashy side when it comes to fashion. No matter where you’re going, you can count on there being a lot of moving around, a lot of people, and a lot of noise. Depending on where you’re going, choosing the perfect outfit is key. For women, you can never go wrong with a beautiful asymmetrical sequin dress with a tiny bag and high heels. For men, don’t be afraid to get edgy. Now would be the perfect to to wear that sheer shirt or a mesh top with dress or leather pants and boots. This is truly the time to let loose and let your outfit lead you through the night.
Easter is a Christian holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The holiday includes a series of events and holidays that begin with a 40 day period of fasting, prayer and sacrifice that ends with Holy Week, which includes Holy Thursday, the celebration of Jesus’ Last Supper with the 12 Apostles, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. Although Easter is a holiday of high religious significance in the Christian faith, many traditions associated with Easter date back to pagan times. Currently, Easter is often associated with events like dinner and egg hunts. Dressing for an Easter occasion like dinner and an egg hunt is surprisingly the easiest occasion to dress for. As the weather is perfect on Easter, not much is required. Easter is a time of fun and tranquility so wearing something that reflects that will surely get you plenty of compliments.
When getting ready for an Easter event things should seem more elegant. During this period the weather is at its finest and the sun is out shining an abundance of light, defining the earth’s beauty. It works the same for your outfit. Women should wear something like a sundress with slippers and a big hat and sunglasses to protect makeup from sweating off in the sun. Men should consider wearing button down shirts with shorts and simple sneakers. You can really come as casual as you want to Easter events, as this day and age it’s mostly about the exciting egg hunt for the children.
