How To Deal With Spring Fever While Staying At Home

You’re staying at home, following all the rules of social distancing. You know not to venture far from home, but the sun is shining and warm weather is starting to make a comeback. In other words, spring fever is hitting hard right now. Not only have you been cooped up all winter, but now your time at home has been extended even longer. So, how can you make the most of the sunshine while staying at home? Check out these seven ways you can fight your spring fever.

Take Advantage of Sunny Days

When the sun is out, make the most of it. You have all the time in the world to sit on the couch or sleep in till noon, but don’t make it a habit on nice days. When the weather is over 60, depending on where you live, you can definitely soak up some color. Once I see the UV is at a level five or six, I throw on a bathing suit and lay outside. You might find this crazy, but you’d be surprised how it can get when you allow yourself to just lay there and bake in the sun. Laying out, even if you get a little burnt, it such a positive vibe. Not only does it make summer feel that much closer, but who doesn’t feel better with a tan? Lay-out in the sun on as many nice days as possible. A good idea to plan out your days is to check the weather app the day before. If the weathers looking nice, set an alarm and get up and moving earlier! Warm weather can be surprisingly motivating.

Go for Walks/Runs

A great way to feel less cooped up in your house is to get outside and get your body moving. When it’s spring-like weather, all we want to do is be outside embracing it. Therefore, spend as little time as you can inside these days. Waking up earlier and going for long power walks or runs is a great way to start your day. It’ll get your body moving, your energy levels up, and your mind feeling refreshed. Plus, it’s a great way to soak up the sun. Depending on what time of day you get outside, you’re sure to get a little color to your face! I find it helpful to take a nice long walk right when I wake up in the morning and really take in nature around me. No texting, no music, just me and the nature around me (okay and maybe the occasional phone call). Then, right before dinner, I take a shorter, faster walk, usually taking the dog along with me. Getting outside and getting as much sunlight as possible will make staying at home much more enjoyable.

Create a Workout Plan

Spring means summer is right around the corner. We get it’s hard to stay motivated to workout during the dark, cold winter when all you want to do is lay in bed. Now that it’s warming up outside, this is the perfect time to start getting into a regular workout routine. I find that the closer I am to bikini season, the more motivated I am to workout, and I’m sure you’ll feel the same. Create a strict workout plan from today to summer (pick a date around the end of June or early July). Include cardio, leg/booty workouts, arm workouts, and ab workouts and make a schedule that you’ll be willing to follow along to. This will get you even more excited for the warmer weather! Plus, if you live somewhere it’s already pretty warm, or you have access to a backyard, complete these workouts outside! You’ll absorb sunlight as well as be on your way to a killer bikini body.

Make an “After-Quarantine” Bucket List

Another great way to stay positive and in the warm-weather mood is to create a bucket list of everything you want to do once you’re able to leave the house again. This will make the Spring a much more promising sign, rather than make it harder to see the good in the uncertain world we are currently living in. Fill your list with everything fun you’ve always wanted to do over the summer and even the little things you once took for granted. From carnivals to surfing to even just driving around with your best friend, add it to the list. Your “after-quarantine” bucket list will keep you busy creating and daydreaming during your time at home, as well as ensure you that better days lie ahead.

Organize Your Warm Weather Clothes

Your sundresses, denim shorts, and tank tops have missed you. With warmer weather finally approaching, a great way to deal with spring fever is organizing your closet! You’ll no longer need your eight sherpa jackets hanging up front and center. Take everything you wear during the fall and winter seasons, such as your heavy sweaters, scarves, turtlenecks, or boots and move them to the back of your closet. Take out your old dresses, rompers, beach pants, sandals, etc., because it’s time to do a try-on! Figure out what still fits, what you want to keep, what should be given away, or even what you could make into a better piece of clothing. This will keep you busy and anxious to get back into your spring and summer wardrobe! Save this project for a rainy spring day so you don’t miss out on any sunshine.

Schedule Work Times

When the dull, cold weather finally leaves, all you want to do is spend your time outside. Now that you’re completing your schoolwork from home, it’s hard enough to stay motivated and on track. Now with the sun beating down in your backyard, you feel like it’s summer and your semester has already ended. It hasn’t, and now is not the time to give up on all your hard work. Luckily, with careful planning, you can still embrace as much sun as possible while completing all your assignments on time. Every day, make a to-do list. They only take about a minute to create and they will guide you through each day. Do what you can to plan your work times till after about 3 p.m. Allow yourself the day to unwind and enjoy the weather, and then grind out your work after the sun has worked its hardest. If you’re able to tan all day and then head inside and focus on your schoolwork, you are so incredibly lucky. See how your work schedule can be adjusted around sunny days!

Go for a Drive

Sometimes, you just really need to get out of the house. As long as you’re practicing social distancing, you should be able to head out for a drive. Just you, nobody else (unless it’s someone you live with of course). Roll the windows down and take in all the fresh air! Drive your favorite routes, whether it’s through your town center, over a bridge, or down past your favorite beach. Turn the music up loud and enjoy your ride! For safety reasons, make sure your car has a hand sanitizer, gloves, and face mask handy, just in case. Do a few laps relaxing, enjoying the warm air, and listening to your favorite tunes before heading back home to lay in the backyard! (Going out on a drive might not be OK in every town or household, speak with your family before leaving.)
