How To Celebrate Christmas At Home
Everyone has come to the realization that we will more than likely be celebrating Christmas at home. For most this is a hard realization because traditions and holidays leave us wanting to be with family more than ever. This Christmas is going to be a unique one and it’s time for us to build new traditions at home. These are just a few ways everyone can be able to celebrate Christmas at home.
Christmas Tree
Let’s start off with a tradition everyone already does at home. Pick up those Christmas spirits and set up your tree early! Take the time to come up with a theme for your tree this year. It could be mismatched or colored coordinated. It could be harder to get a real Christmas tree this year because going out might be more difficult. You could try out getting an artificial tree this year. Christmas trees are such a staple when it comes to the holidays that you’ll find it’s a great way to get into the Christmas spirit and spend special time with those around you.
DIY Ornaments
Just as you’re decorating your Christmas tree why not make your own ornaments this year! With lots of free time at home, you can fill it by doing fun crafts like this. Making ornaments is actually a lot easier than you might think it is. There are a lot of different ornaments you can make so there are a lot of possibilities. For bulb-shaped ornaments, you can buy clear ornaments and paint them yourselves with acrylic paint and even jazz them up with some glitter. This is a great way to build a theme for your tree by painting ornaments the colors you like based on your theme. There are ways to get plain ceramic ornaments that are blank. With the ceramic ornaments, you can paint them designs all your own. This is just a really fun activity to do with your friends or family that will really cheer up your Christmas time.
DIY Wreath
Another DIY craft you can do at home is to make a DIY wreath by yourself. A wreath is always a nice touch to any home for the holidays. It is easy to make at home with just a quick order from your local craft store. For a simple wreath, all you’ll need is a wire circle, fake leaves, and some cute Christmas decorations. A trip to Michaels is all you’ll need for theses supplies. You don’t have to just use those decorations you can get really creative and make different kinds of wreaths. With some research, I’m sure you’ll be able to find so many different styles of wreaths that are easy to make at home.
Bake Your Own Gingerbread House
One Christmas holiday tradition that is a staple in many households is building a gingerbread house. More time than not you’ll probably go to the store and buy a gingerbread house kit where you can just build the house already made. Why not bake your own house? Not only is a fun activity to do at home but it also gives you creative liberty to make any gingerbread house you can imagine. Icing is also really easy to make at home so you can make the icing different colors for a colorful house! Use your favorite candy to ad details to your architectural masterpiece. With that gingerbread cookie dough save some on the side to bake some gingerbread people to live in the house. This is just a really fun and delicious way to still keep Christmas spirits high at home.
Christmas Movie Party
If you’re home with your family then why not plan some movie nights! With so many movie streaming services there are endless possibilities for Christmas movies online. Are you sad you can’t be with your friends for the holidays? Make a discord server and plan to chat and watch movies together on there. This way you’ll still have your friends around you for Christmas and you get to stay in the holiday mood with a classic Christmas movie.
Plan A Home-Cooked Meal
Families stuck at home means a big Christmas feast. This is a fun way to spend time with the people you live with and make delicious food. Gather what everyone’s favorite dishes are and try to make them for the holidays. Research some yummy Christmas foods that you don’t usually have for Christmas and why not try something new? You have lots of time to experiment with recipes at home. Make a feast worthy of a Christmas dinner.
Make A Christmas Playlist
Nothing gets people more in the Christmas mood than a really good Christmas playlist. Sit together with everyone you live with and throw around Christmas songs to put on a playlist. For the holidays you can play the playlist when you’re home. You can go classic with songs like Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer or use songs that are a little more current like All I Want For Christmas Is You or Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. A personal favorite Christmas song of mine is Baby It’s Cold Outside. It’ll be a great way to celebrate Christmas at home because music is always a great way to get people in the mood, especially for the holidays.
Build a Christmas Village
A cute activity to add something extra to your holidays is building your own Christmas village! You can go super DIY and actually craft little buildings and scenery yourself. You can do this with cardboard or wooden sticks for the homes and some yarn fuzz for snow or grass. The alternative to this is just buying premade Christmas village buildings and scenery. You can find little houses for Santa’s workshop, little cottages, or even little shopping centers. Buy tiny people to place around your Christmas village to add to the look and ambiance of the tiny town. I always liked putting a little Christmas village under the tree because it just looks like a little town in my own house. Putting it under the tree just adds to the aesthetic of the village.
Which of these do you want to try to make your home feeling more like Christmas? Do you already do any of these? Let us know in the comments. Don’t forget to share so your friends can learn what they can do to celebrate Christmas at home.
