Working from home, choosing your own hours, travelling the world and getting free stuff from collabs, who doesn’t like the idea of becoming a social media influencer? But be warned, it’s not as easy as you would think, so be sure to follow these 10 easy steps on how to coming a social media influencer to be the biggest and best one out there.
The first step to becoming a social media influencer is to find your niche. This can be absolutely anything that you want it to be and the more unique the better, such as glitter eyeshadow looks, pink highlighter pen reviewer, you name it and someone out there will want to read about it!
You are going to have to live breath and eat your niche if you want to become a fabulous social media influencer, so make sure it is something that you are passionate about. This can be the downfall of a lot of aspiring influencers out there so don’t fall down the pit.
Now this isn’t going to happen overnight, in fact this is probably the hardest part of becoming an influencer but by staying active, finding the social media platform that works for you, whether it be Instagram or Twitter, and following the next step, hopefully this part becomes a bit easier.
What a lot of people don’t know is that most influencers have a very effective marketing strategy that they stick to religiously, as well as learning about photography to ensure that they take the best pictures for the gram, as with becoming an influencer also means becoming partially a photographer. There are thousands of free online courses you can sign up to if that is something that you’re interested in learning more about.
Like we’ve already mentioned, with becoming a social media influencer, you’re probably also going to become your very own part-time photographer so make sure that you’re constantly taking pictures of everything you can. People will be dying to know everything they can and sometimes a throw-away can end up being the best photo of the day.
Make sure that you’re following other influencers within your field and always be looking out for what they’re doing and trends and finding your way of building, bettering, and putting your own spin on things. Remember, these people are your competition!
Slightly contradicting what we just said, make sure that while you’re staying on top of what others in your field are doing, make sure that you’re also networking with these other influencers, not only are these people your competition but they should also be your friends. Afterall, everyone loves a good collaboration, which brings us to the next step…
At first you’re going to have to collaborate with smaller accounts and chances are that you’re not going to get paid, in fact you may even need to pay others to collab with them! Like we said, becoming an influencer does not happen overnight. Don’t worry though, eventually people will be queuing (and paying good money) to be collaborating with you but until then be humble, be patient, and take all the opportunities that you can.
Stay active on your influencer accounts. This is a 24/7 job now and unfortunately you can’t afford to take long breaks from it if you want to be serious. Stay active, post frequently and watch your follower count grow.
Being an influencer is a job and having that title literally means that you have a significant influence on people, and with great power comes great responsibility. Sure, have fun with it but also be professional. This means no ranting or anything that could cause offence can be posted online. After all, you’re a role model now.
