When you hear the words “The Bachelor” or “The Bachelorette” generally you laugh or think of all the times people got famous for being dumped on national television. However, being on this certain TV show is not all about the Instagram followers (well for some people it’s not) but for putting yourself out there for a chance to find that one person that will stick by you for the rest of your life. I talked to some of the past bachelor and bachelorette contestants and got their answers on what they have learned from being on the show and how the show changed their lives. I learned that not only did it help their self-love and confidence, but for some it helped them get back out there and find the love of their life even if it wasn’t them standing with the final rose.
“I had no expectations going into The Bachelor, and there were so many great things that came from the experience. I have some amazing memories, friends, a platform and a boyfriend! My boyfriend, Raul, actually saw me on the show. He knew we had a mutual friend, so he waited to be introduced. Then we took off running from there! You learn a lot about yourself from the show. It makes you open up and talk about past experiences that make you who you are today! I got to know myself more from doing the show. It made me confident in who I truly am and what I wanted from a life partner! :)”
“I was nominated to go on the show by my coworkers, and I just knew I wouldn’t get picked because EVERYONE wants to be on the show. So when I got the offer to go on, I was extremely nervous. I realized that 10 million people’s view of you is going to depend on a group of editors and how they want to portray you. I decided to do it, since it was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I have no regrets. Doing Bachelor in Paradise was a no-brainer due to my experience on the first show. I’ve met some great people and developed lasting friendships. I have been presented with opportunities due to my additional exposure that I probably wouldn’t have gotten otherwise. The weirdest part is probably the attention that you get when you’re out and about, but you come to get used to it!
“I was found on LinkedIn by a member of the casting team and proceeded through the formal process. It was almost three months long and I questioned whether or not I would do it the entire time. I was incredibly skeptical and doubtful I’d even be chosen, considering I’m not the typical person on the show from an aesthetics standpoint. I was surprised when I was told I was going to be on the show and ultimately decided to move forward and face my largest insecurity, which is how I look. I’ve always been pseudo confident, but I wanted to really push myself to be comfortable with myself.
The show, as difficult as it was, gave me the ability to shed those insecurities because I had to face them in front of millions of people every single week. I learned so much about myself and was able to create relationships that would last forever. I’m thankful I went on and it put me in a position to be a better, more confident person that has a platform to create personal benefits and help others when possible. Only drawback.. meeting Diggy.. lol”
“I was nominated by my sister. She always teased that she would nominate me. I was so opposed and then after Ben H’s season I gave her the green light. It truly is a rush. You meet so many amazing people, and are given so many new opportunities. The world becomes smaller and you feel more connected to it. There is an element to it afterward where you have to learn/remember to remain completely true to who you are, and to love yourself. It does put your confidence/self love to the test, and you have to let that confidence be ingrained so deeply in you that you become resilient, which is a really great life skill. Especially for anyone who continues to pursue a career path that is in the public eye.”
“Learned a lot about SugarbearHair and SkinnyTea. But seriously, I learned how big of an impact you can have on people just being on television. It’s a pretty surreal experience to have viewers genuinely feel a connection. I also learned that the term “reality tv” is truly a misnomer. Being on the show is a humbling experience. You ultimately have very little control over how you’re portrayed or how fans respond to it. It also offered a restart. Like many attorneys, I was looking for an excuse to get out of law. I’ve been working on a couple of new ventures that I’m truly excited about. (And that don’t involve ads for smile direct club.)”
