10 House Plants That Will Make Your Place Look Great

Even amidst all of the insanity lately, house plants are more than available and trust me, you need them. You need to clear out all the carbon dioxide from the room of course, but you also need that room to look good while it’s happening. A fresh room needs an equally fresh look after all, and what better way to accomplish just that than with some nice green house plants? That said, you can’t just get any old plant – you need the one that’s right for you! That’s why this list of 10 house plants that are sure to make your place look great is just the article for you!

1. Money Tree

Less commonly referred to as the Guiana chestnut, the money tree is a classic house plant loved in domiciles and offices alike. A South American swampland tree by nature, it’s sure to add a subtle rainforest vibe to any room! You need to make sure water whenever the top 2-4 inches of the soil gets too dry, and when you plant it, use a peat-based soil and make sure it’s allowed to drain well. They’re somewhat sensitive little things, but the effort you put into it will be reflected in the beauty this plant adds to your domicile!

2. Sansevieria

These beautiful ornamental house plants are hard to beat in terms of appearance and low maintenance. You may know them as snake plants, but this is only one variation of this species of plant – sansevieria comes in many shapes and sizes (though they’re generally similar), and more importantly they’re tough as nails. You can have them on the patio in the tundra of Colorado and they’ll be just dandy.

3. Tradescantia Zebrina

A beautiful bushel of teal and purple foliage, these houseplants are generally low maintenance. You just need to water it enough that it is moist throughout the soil – so about every 6 days or so. Heads up though: they spread like a mf’er, so don’t let them outside. Furthermore, it is important to note that, while not necessarily poisonous to pets, certain components of the plant are troublesome to their digestive tract if consumed. So perhaps if you have a cat or a dog that likes to eat plants or chew on things just to figure out what the hell they are, maybe hold off on buying this plant, however pretty it may be.

4. Chinese Evergreen

Otherwise known as aglaonema, these subtropical leafy greens with a tendency to have pretty pinkish underbellies are gorgeous house plants that will put some pizazz in any room. They like water, but overwatering will cause root rot so don’t go crazy. Use it as the centerpiece of a tropical collection of plants, floral or leafy. Otherwise this plant looks just dandy on it’s own!

5. Dracaena Janet Craig

An interesting name for an equally interesting house plant – it looks like a palm tree from Whoville or a collection of upside-down mood. It’s a pretty tough plant, but it absolutely can’t have soggy soil, so water sparingly. As long as you follow that one guideline, however, you’ll have one tough and aesthetically pleasing little tree perfect for filling any corner of your place!

6. Asparagus Fern

Native to South Africa, these neat little house plants are guaranteed to make your place look great. The near-fuzzy cascading leaves are perfect for hanging baskets and plant assembly. That said, this one is going to need a little effort indoors, and by effort I mean humidity. Unless you live in Florida, you’re going to keep these well watered and misted often.

7. Hedgehog Aloe

Another native plant of South Africa, this spiky variation of the O.G. aloe vera is a very aesthetically pleasing succulent, and a quick burn treatment to boot. Make it the centerpiece of a pot of different succulents, or pot it by itself as a stand-alone plant, it’s sure to look great either way! Like with other succulents, it needs very little water – just a bit whenever it gets too dry. With a stylish look and low maintenance, what more could you ask for?

8. Bonsai

These are trees that are grown in shallow containers and trained and pruned to be a miniature replica of the tree. However, keep in mind when you’re purchasing these wonderous ornamental plants that bonsais can take a lot of care and effort. You have to keep it well trimmed, cared for, and trained in order to get it to grow into a miniature version of the tree from which it originated. That said, the result is always a beautiful addition to your place – a beauty that is challenged by few other houseplants.

9. Philodendron Heartleaf (cordatum)

This beautiful leafy green is stylish and great for the indoors. You can let it grow from a hanging basket, or simply let it flow out of a grounded pot or something – whatever you want! It needs some sunlight, but not directly, lest the leaves get burned. What’s more, florescent light is also acceptable for this plant, making it even more perfect for the indoors.

10. Ponytail Palm

This is a truly unique collection of house plants: the ponytail palms! A tiny tree straight from eastern Mexico. It’s look is right in the name – it looks exactly like a horsetail with numerous thin, whiplike leaves. It’s curly, ornamental, and a gorgeous addition to any room or table! It needs plenty of light so keep it near a window with ample access to sunlight.

From the money tree to the ponytail palm, these plants will all purify any room and make them look fresh and full of foliage! If none of these plants suit your fancy, however, fear not: there are a whole plethora of other house plants to chose from, you’ll just have to head over to your nearest nursery and allow your personal tastes to guide you.
