The Grudge fans have a reason to rejoice! Sony has announced that there will be a remake of this classic horror flick. The Grudge 2019 Release date is finally here! The release date is set to be August 16, 2019. Takashi Shimizu wrote and directed Ju-On: The Grudge, the original 2002 Japanese version. Sony made the American version of The Grudge in 2004, which Shimizu also directed, and that version went on to earn $187.2 million worldwide.

Andrea Riseborough, Demian, John Cho, and Lin Shaye have all joined the cast of the reboot.

Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert will produce for Ghost House, while the production team is set to include Nathan Kahane, Erin Westerman, Schuyler Weiss, Roy Lee, Doug Davison, John Middleton, and Andrew Pfeffer. Nicolas Pesce will direct the remake.

Sam Raimi, who produced the original remake, said in a statement that the new remake “explores the horrors of American suburbia.”

The original remake tells the tale of a nurse who catches the curse put on the house by the ghosts left behind in a house following the murder of a son and mom.

The original American remake of The Grudge took place in Japan, but the reboot will re-imagine the movie and will take place in the United States.

Filming will start sometime this month in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The “original” remake told the tale of murders of a mother, son, and cat whose ghosts reside in a house and pursue anyone who enters the house.

The success of the first remake prompted a sequel, but the American The Grudge series came to an end after the third movie. The Japanese version, Ju On, boasted a total of 12 movies. Aside from directing, Pesce will write the new film, which is based on a script by writer Jeff Buhler. The remake will retell the same story of the house and the ghosts.
