10 Holiday Party Themes You’ll Die Over
Holiday parties can be one of two things, boring and mundane or fun and exciting. The best way to ensure your party is the latter, is making sure that you have an exciting party theme. Making your party stand out from a typical holiday party will make sure that your party is the one to remember.
1. TV Shows
Do you and all yours friends have a favorite show that you all obsess over? Maybe you all binge watch Stranger Things and your brunch dates are filled with conversations about Eleven and the down under. Theme your holiday party to that, have a Merry Christmas sign in the famous Stranger Things Christmas lights. Or if you all love The Office, theme it to all the Office Christmas episodes and debate over which one is the best. It will get everyone into the holiday spirit but also be an easy theme to stick too. This is perfect for a casual get together with close friends and family, prepare foods that they eat on the shows and organize a trivia to see who is the ultimate fan of the show.
2. Wrap Party
The worst part about the holidays is wrapping gifts. I am the absolute worst gift wrapper, so I always set aside time with my sister to have her wrap my presents for me. She’s precise and makes sure that they look perfect. But over the years we’ve expanded and now invite our friends. It’s a night of drinking and gift wrapping. It’s a great way to catch up during the madness that is the holidays; you can still get stuff you need to get done and see your friends. Drink wine or cozy up and drink tea and coffee, whatever you decide, just make sure you don’t accidentally bring their gift!
3. Pajama Party
This theme is fun for all ages and various groups. People with young kids, families and college age. The worst part about the holidays is how cold it is, we all want to stay cozy in our pajamas so having a pajama party is the best way to show off those flannel jammies you just bought. If there’s kids you can have a hot chocolate station for them to drink and for adults you can do the same, just add some Kuala and you’re in for a super fun, relaxed party!
4. Ugly Christmas Sweater
This theme has become super popular over the years but it’s always a really fun party. Ugly Christmas sweaters are easier to find than cute ones these days. Having a contest for the ugliest sweater can really make everyone go all out. It’s another way for everyone to stay warm during winter, but create more fun than an average Christmas Party.
5. Black Tie
This is for the more sophisticated groups and the ones that have formal attire sitting around that they never wear. I would love an excuse to wear all the formal and beautiful dresses I own but never get an excuse to wear. Dressing up during the holidays can be really fun and make you feel a little better when the cold weather is bringing you down. Having something to dress up for is always exciting and your friends will have a fun time in their longs dresses drinking champagne whether you rent out a nice hall or even if it’s just in your living room!
6. BYOB
What better way to get into the Christmas spirit than by drinking spirits! Bring your own booze, cocktail party can be a fun way to experience new drinks you haven’t tried before. Maybe you’re a huge fan of mules but want to try something else out. Have everyone bring different ingredients for signature cocktails and have fun creating Christmas versions of those drinks. Cranberry Cider and Apple Mules can be festive and fun. Everyone will love feeling like a bartender and you won’t be stuck drinking a boring punch.
7. White Christmas
Who says you can’t wear white after Labor Day? Having everyone come dressed in white can be a funny and fun way to celebrate the snowy season. Create drinks and food that are white and fit with the theme, red and green are overused and expected at any given holiday party. Have all your decorations and partygoers in all white and if you’re lucky it will snow and you can take a group picture in the white snow!
8. Christmas In July
Having everyone come in summer attire can be a funny way to bring everyone together. People will love being able to show off their summer suits and clothes they didn’t get a chance to wear. Bathing suits and sunscreen floaties and hats are all acceptable attire for a Christmas in July party. They’ll probably have to wear something over their summer clothes to be able to make it outside, but serving cranberry margaritas is a perfect way to tie the two together so your guests will have a unique and fun experience!
9. Movie Marathon
Let’s be honest with ourselves, the holiday season is exhausting and sometimes you just want to hide from the cold and watch cheesy Christmas movies. This is a great way for you and your guests to relax but still make time to see one another. Everyone can bring a different Christmas movie and use it as a git exchange and at the end of the gift exchange you can all vote for your favorite and watch it as a group. It’s the best way to end an evening, by relaxing and celebrating the holidays.
10. Worst Present Party
Have everyone bring a gag gift that would make the worst present ever. It could be a Charlie Brown “I got a rock” rock or a pack of pens. Or something a little more risqué. Your party goers will love shopping for funny presents and you avoid the awkwardness of opening a gift of mixing bowls, knowing that Aunt Cheryl seriously thought you’d want those. It’s takes away the pressure of gift giving and focuses on what’s actually important, bring people together for a fun time.
