December is usually such a busy time for college students due to cramming for final exams and getting last-minute assignments done. Christmas dorm decorations can be just enough to get you through exam season and bring some holiday joy to your room!
The most obvious, but consistently the Christmas decoration I am always the most excited about putting up, is a Christmas tree. Now, dorm rooms are usually quite cramped as you have your whole life in one room, thus having a full-size tree is not really realistic. Therefore, I suggest purchasing a mini Christmas tree or a tabletop one instead. This is more conducive to fitting into a smaller space and still looks super festive and cute! An affordable option is this pre-decorated tabletop Christmas tree from Amazon. I like this one because it is pre-lit and pre-decorated, so all you have to do is set it on whatever flat surface you choose to display it on and place batteries into the respective slots. The convenience of this item is great if you have a super heavy class load or a lot of finals coming up, as it takes mere minutes to set up! Plus, since it is battery operated, you can place it wherever you want without having to worry about having an open electrical outlet. This tiny tree retails for $19.99 and is eligible for free two-day shipping if you are an Amazon Prime member!

If you are like Lorelai Gilmore and are so in love with snow that you can sense it’s arrival, you will love these bright white curtain lights. These are also from Amazon, which makes it convenient for last-minute decorating or if you just do not want to go out to an actual store. You can quickly order these while taking a study break and they will show up for you in just two days! I know that the warm curtain lights are super popular, but I think the white color is absolutely perfect for the holiday season because it looks like snow falling. These lights are controlled from a small remote, are USB operated, have eight different lighting modes, and there is a timer function available as well so you can safely fall asleep in a winter wonderland! This set of lights retails for $14.99, which is such a great deal!

If you have read any of my previous holiday articles, you know that no holiday decorating is complete in my opinion without a banner. Christmas dorm decorations should be affordable but still quite cute and I think that this one complete with flamingos in Santa hats fits that description. This banner is so festive and I love that it has four different tiers, which is perfect if you have a large, blank wall to work within your dorm or common area. It retails for $19.99 and is available from Walmart!

A fun aspect of having a dorm room is the fact that you basically have your own front door, which one should not neglect from decorating. I do not think I saw wreaths included in other people’s Christmas dorm decorations when I was in college, however, I think they are quite cute and again they are so easy to put up you just need a wreath hook or a command hood to hang it upon. There are oodles of Christmas wreaths on the market, but I like this specific one for a dorm room door because it is extra festive and even says, “Merry Christmas”, in stunning gold lettering. This wreath is from Walmart’s website and would cost you just $12.95 if you were interested in purchasing this specific Christmas wreath. This is such a great deal for a decoration that would easily last you all four years of your undergraduate degree and surely brighten up the hallways of your dormitory.

If you find the banner too childish for your liking, or it simply does not match your dorm room decor, this simple piece of wall decor may be just up your alley. This is one of the most subtle Christmas dorm decorations that I have seen on the market, which is great if you like to keep things quite understated. I like that it is only black and white, plus it has such a classic holiday phrase on it in the most beautiful hand lettering. The material of the sign itself looks like a wooden crate, though it is stretched canvas, that has been painted white, which gives it a bit of a shabby chic vibe, while still being quite refined and simple. This piece of wall decor retails at $32.86, which is the most expensive piece of holiday decor thus far, however, the quality of the sign is worth the money you would spend on it.

Last but certainly not least on this list of Christmas dorm decorations, is this set of throw pillows. These are only $11.99 on the Walmart website and are my favorites on the site because of the simple winter design upon them. These throw pillows are a gorgeous apple red color and adorned with crisp white snowflakes. I like that the snowflakes differ in design as each real snowflake does and because these are made out of cotton and linen, they are bound to be super comfortable to lounge on while you cram for that final exam! The pillowcases measure 18″x18″ and the snowflake pattern is just on the front side of the pillowcase. This set only includes the pillowcases, so you would have to purchase pillows to fit them if you do not already have those on hand, but the price is so low that I think it is doable on a budget!
