7 Hobbies To Take Up While Stuck At Home

Since we are all stuck at home, we are left with a lot of time on our hands. Without having to go to work every single day, many of us will have to adjust to not having to leave our houses for days on. Luckily, you can occupy your time with some hobbies that you can do from the safety of your home. Here are some hobbies to consider learning while under quarantine.

1. Drawing/sketching

You just might have an artist within you. If you haven’t really considered yourself artistic in the past, maybe being stuck at home is what you need to sharpen your skills. Taking up drawing or sketching doesn’t require that much special materials since you will only need a pencil or paper. It also doesn’t have to be anything formal. Gather some spare pieces of paper and let your imagination go free. You can also find some drawing prompts online to find your muse to get started. With enough time and practice, you can really sharpen your skills and have a brand new hobby on your hands.

2. Painting

For another artistic medium to pursue, painting is another option for being creative while stuck at home. If you are lucky enough to have spare paints lying around, now would be a good time to dig it out and start working on your next masterpiece. The great thing about art is that it’s all subjective. Even if you are working on painting for the first time, you can really do it however you like. Even painting an entire piece of paper or canvas a solid color can still be therapeutic. However, if you are looking to hone your skills as a painter, you can look up tutorials online to take your skills to new heights. Even if you don’t have paint at home, you can order some online or even download a painting app. It might not be the same exact experience, but sometimes you take what you can get. Once you get comfortable painting, all you will need is to put on some good music and let your troubles melt away. You can end up having your own personal gallery at home reflecting the time that we all were stuck at home.

3. Cooking

One of the best things you can do while stuck at home under quarantine is keeping yourself well-fed and healthy. What better way to do so than learning how to cook delicious meals? Whether you are quarantined with your family or by yourself, you can always create great-tasting food from scratch with natural ingredients. Grocery stores might be limited in terms of options at the present moment, so you may have to get creative with alternatives. Regardless, you can always sharpen your skills in the kitchen by learning how to cook meals for any time of the day or baking delicious desserts. There are plenty of online resources and cooks taking to the internet to share their favorite recipes that you can use to create your own culinary masterpieces.

4. Learning an instrument

The best probable thing you could do while stuck at home for such a long time is at least make sure your environment is not deprived of noise and life. If you have always wanted to play a specific instrument or swore you would a while ago, now you have the perfect chance to do so. The challenge, of course, is getting an instrument in your possession if you don’t have one. You have the option of ordering one if you are dedicated to learning, but there’s also the option of playing digitally. Apps have been created that are as close to the real thing as possible. With limited options, this could be your best bet to being a musical prodigy. From guitar to piano, there’s plenty of instruments that you could give a shot and even get virtual lessons. Once you get enough practice, you can even show off your skills via Instagram live stream.

5.  Journaling

If you are feeling overwhelmed by the current state of the world, you could always put your feelings into words through journaling. Taking up this hobby can definitely help you find some catharsis. Even if it feels like a small action, it’s something that you could find yourself enjoying doing on a regular basis. You can follow a prompt or simply write about anything without having to worry about a certain structure. Even if you write an entry based on what you did on that specific day, it would definitely be something interesting to return to when all of this is over.

6. Sewing/Knitting

A hobby that is fun but also practical, learning how to sew can definitely come in handy when you least expect it. Additionally, knitting can also be a hobby that is fun as well as relaxing as you place your focus on the piece that you are knitting. It’s a hobby that is also pretty rewarding if you learn how to create something all on your own from a scarf to a knit cap for yourself or others. It doesn’t matter how old you are, learning how to sew or knit can be a fun hobby even when you are not stuck at home.

7. Gardening

Now that spring is on its way, it seems like it is finally safe to go outside without having to bundle up as much. With it continuing to warm up as time goes on, you can start to get a green thumb by learning how to garden. Your backyard will definitely look that much better with some flowers sprouting and produce that you have grown yourself.  This hobby is perfect for being able to get fresh air outdoors while still maintaining social distance. You just have to settle for showing off your garden virtually rather than in-person. If you don’t have a backyard, you could always learn how to keep a garden indoors with succulents and other indoor plants. The great thing about plants is they can bring life into your home and also something to focus on if you want something to take your mind off the outside world for a few moments.
