6 Hip AF Vegetarian Blogs To Follow Right Now

As an extreme foodie, looking up food blogs, especially vegetarian blogs, is somewhat of a hobby. I’m always searching for the greatest places to eat in NYC, LA, Boston or wherever I may be; seriously the list goes on-and-on. Just about a year ago when I was at my yearly check-up at the doctors, an annual nightmare, but I won’t get into that. Long story short, when I was asked what my diet was so she could get a feel for the types of food I was eating, it dawned on me that I’m pretty much a vegetarian. No – I don’t purposely avoid meat, it’s just usually not my go-to; except chicken tacos are the Taco Tuesday exception.

As of lately I’ve been inspired to get back in the kitchen in hopes of improving my lifestyle. Especially with Friendsgiving around the corner, vegetarian recipes are a must. Here are some of the best vegetarian blogs to follow that have insanely creative takes on fun recipes. Even if you eat meat, you’re bound to find some seriously epic recipes! Let’s get down to it.

The Vegetarian Blog Breakdown

My New Roots

This vegetarian food blog, run by Sarah Britton, is honestly as good as it gets! So let’s be frank, I’m a sucker for aesthetically pleasing Instagram pages and websites; it’s just a little known fact my friends like to make fun of me for. I can honestly say My New Roots knocks it out of the park in this department, amongst others. Sarah’s Instagram feed is absolutely to die for and the blog itself is easy to navigate. She’s been featured in critically acclaimed media outlets all over the world: Vogue, ELLE, Whole Living, Oprah Magazine, Forbes, WebMD, Kinfolk (a personal favorite), Food52 and The Huffington Post. If one girl knows her shit about living a healthy vegetarian lifestyle, it’s her.

Sarah began her vegetarian blog after gaining incredible insight on Holistic Nutrition; since we’re constantly bombarded by mass amounts of information in the media, sometimes untrue, Sarah felt the need to share her knowledge with the public. Her dream of creating a non-biased space for people to learn about taking better care of themselves has become a reality. Fun recipes like tempeh tacos with raw cashew queso and chickpea pasta with basil-pea pesto can be found on her blog. Not to mention, these recipes are pretty easy to make if you’re not so talented in the cooking department. Bottom line – her blog is a must.

Valleybrink Road

Okay, can’t help but show some love for a fellow Los Angelino – Barrett Prendergast. For those of you who, like myself, aren’t vegetarian, Valleybrink Road is the ultimate food blog to follow. If you are a vegetarian however she features insanely fantastic vegetarian food options. In fact, there is a great deal of vegetarian options to choose from. She might potentially be my absolute favorite. Like My New Roots, Valleybrink Road’s blog is aesthetically fuego; there’s just no denying that one. Barrett has been featured on several popular media outlets you’re all aware of: Anthropologie, mentioned by non-other-than Khloe Kardashian, Rip & Tan, Pottery Barn, How You Glow (another personal favorite), LaurenConrad.com, InStyle and many others. You get the point; she knows what she’s doing.

Not only is she an insane cook but she’s a gifter, lifestyle curator and luxury floral designer. She literally kills it. If you follow her Instagram you’ll be greeted by insanely cute videos of her morning “smoothie-time” routine with her 2-year-old son and epic photos of food. Her blog is easy to navigate and full of beautiful whimsical photos. If you are a fan of spaghetti with tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil or peanut butter and banana toast, you shouldn’t have a problem following this chic mama. Her veggie fried rice is to die for as well as any of her pastas; she’s married to an Italian so of course her Italian cuisine is top-notch.

The First Mess

Alright, if any of you have been to Martha’s Vineyard, this blog basically reminds me of the island itself. This young Canadian has vegetarian meals on lock down. Laura Wright is an accomplished cook who has learned a great deal about the food industry from working in multiple restaurants and growing up around serious agriculture. The First Mess centers around natural, plant-based, seasonal and wholesome recipes. Laura stands by living a simplistic lifestyle and staying connected to the earth. Her wholesome approach in the kitchen has her banging out ridiculously epic vegetarian recipes.

Laura’s creamy cauliflower pasta with garlic and roasted tomatoes is high on my list of must-attempt recipes. Her recipe index is no joke; whatever you’re craving, it’s there. Let’s just talk about her banana split ice cream pie. All her recipes are followed by a description indicating if they are gluten free or vegan. If you are a vegan this vegetarian blog is one for the books. She’s been featured in GOOP (come on, Gwenth Paltrow knows her shit), the Chicago Tribune, Oprah.com, The Huffington Post, Food52 and other national organizations. If you are a fan of Valleybrink Road’s recipes, you’ll love The First Mess.

Vegetarian ‘Ventures

Oh yes – it just keeps getting better. Vegetarian ‘Ventures is a must follow. This “20-something year old” from the Midwest is a vegetarian cooking, baking and eating guru. Her photographs are stunning beyond belief which makes you generally spend up to a few hours on her blog; yes, it’s that addicting. Shelly Westerhausen’s blog is incredibly personal and has a beautiful indie vibe to it. She makes it easy to navigate where to find her most popular recipes which is a unique trademark about her blog. Not only does she make it easy for us to see what’s going on but even has an “easy vegetarian main dishes” tab. Talk about hooking us up with easy access.

Shelly has fun takes on boozy drinks as well which is a nice touch! You can’t say sweet beet strawberry and tarragon vodka smash doesn’t sound absolutely to die for. Not only does it sound to die for but it looks it too. She splits her recipes up by category which is another bonus: breakfast, appetizers, drinks, entrees, vegan, sweets, sides and snacks are all there at our fingertips. If you’re someone into photography, especially food photography, you need to check out her food portfolio. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t spend hours on her site drooling over her photographs. I’m sorry but whose not down for butternut squash ricotta pierogi with brown butter hazelnut sauce? That’s what I thought!

Delicious From Scratch

This vegetarian blog is just as cute as the name. I’m not joking when I say Nancy Anne Harbord’s page is adorable. This United Kingdom food photographer knows her stuff. She’s been a vegetarian since she was ten and is passionate about creating mind-blowing vegetarian options. Everything on this blog is made from scratch; if you’re an insane cooker, you’ve just found your vegetarian soul-mate. At twenty-five she really discovered her love for great food and regularly hits the market. Nancy has had opportunities working in France, Sweden, Britain and Denmark.

When visiting her blog there is absolutely no way you can’t get excited. There’s a light and bubbly vibe to her page and the recipes reflect it. Her Rhubarb cocktail is one for the books. Unlike other food blogs, Nancy divides her recipes up by savory or sweet. That’s a pretty unique asset, especially when you can’t decide what you’re in the mood for. Halloumi recipes are all over her page. If you’re a fan of this delectable cheese, you might want to check out how she incorporates it into her recipes. Brown rice risotto with blue cheese, count me in. Let’s just say if you are a cheese fanatic, you’re going to freak-out over her blog.

Happyolks

First of all, talk about a creative vegetarian blog name. Kelsey Boyte creates humble and wholesome recipes that are beautiful beyond belief. Her husband Shaun is a part of the journey and takes the rad photos and videos seen on her page. Currently living in the Colorado Front Range, this hipster blog has everything you could ever dream about. The fun thing about Happyolks is that the recipes can be searched by ingredient; you can bet there’s no shortage of options: tarragon, papaya, guava (yes please) and bok choy are just a few.

She’s been recognized by some pretty epic companies, several of which are my absolute favorite: NYLON Magazine, Urban Outfitters, Glamour, Vogue, Food52, Women’s Health, Buzzfeed and The Huffington Post. Not impressed? You’re totally fooling yourself. Kelsey is a complete bad ass. She’s got a wide range of vegetarian options to choose from: a mango chili rice salad, lemon herb ricotta agnolotti and shiitake bok choy dumplings! Excuse me while I have a minor freak out. Her Instagram allows you to really get to know the girl and is Instagram goals; when you follow her it suggests following Chrissy Teigan. If that isn’t incentive to check out her food blog, I don’t know what is! She’s even got soundcloud playlists to listen to while cooking!
