Taking a sick day is usually no problem. If you’re sick, you are always told to stay home and get some rest. But what if you are feeling like you need to take some time for your mental health? Sometimes taking a mental health day is met with criticism, but it absolutely shouldn’t be. Here is why taking a mental health day is totally necessary.
Your mental health is extremely important. When you are caught up in your work, you might forget to take a moment to take care of yourself. You might brush it off as unnecessary, but you should be paying attention to these feelings.
If you are feeling a little cloudy or lost, and like you just need a good recharge, you should take a mental health day. Read, write, nap. Do whatever is going to help you wake up feeling better the next day.
It can be hard to determine a good time to take a mental health day. A good indicator is usually when you are finding yourself extra distracted. If you think that taking a day to address all that is distracting you, you should consider taking a day off to address whatever the issue is.
It could be as simple as cleaning your room, or as complex as figuring out a new budget for yourself. Whatever it is, if it is keeping you from carrying on with your day, then take some time to figure it out.
Taking a mental health day is all about recharging and rebooting. So, if you are simply finding that you are in need of some quality alone time, then go home. Again, mental health days should be treated with the same care and concern as any other sick day. They both matter, and are both vital to making sure you are happy and healthy.
