Here’s How To Make Coffee Better Than Your Keurig Can

Whether you truly love coffee, or you just drink it for the caffeine boost on a groggy morning, there’s a reason that a quick cup of instant couldn’t ever live up to the taste of a coffee from your local coffee shop on the way to work. However, there are inexpensive ways to make freshly brewed coffee without the need for expensive coffee makers, machines and other electrical equipment. Embrace your inner coffee snob and make yourself a freshly brewed, delicious and real cup of coffee! Below we’ll show you how to make coffee better than your Keurig can!

Cafetiere, or French Press

This is quite a common and iconic way to make coffee without the need for a coffee machine.

When using a Cafetiere, you should use approximately a 10:1 ratio of water to coarsely ground coffee in order to brew the perfect cup. Make sure you leave your coffee to brew for about 4 minutes, or a little longer if you want a stronger brew, before pressing the plunger down to separate the grounds.

They come in a range of sizes and styles, so you can pick a smaller, personal one or a larger one if you need to make a larger quantity of coffee in one go.

Drip Coffee

A common type of coffee machine is a drip coffee maker, where the hot water filters through the coffee and drips into a glass jug. They have the convenience of a hot plate to keep the coffee warm, but this can also lead to giving the coffee a unpleasant taste over time.

This Hario plastic coffee dripper simulates the same principal but drips the perfect amount of coffee straight into your mug, and costs less than £5! This means you get a fresh cup of coffee every time.

All you need is the coffee dripper, a paper filter and some freshly ground coffee. The key to delicious freshly brewed coffee with a dripper is patience. Start by pouring a small amount of hot water, just enough to cover the grounds, in a swirling circular motion. Wait for the water to filter through before adding more coffee slowly, aiming for a steady drip. Adding too much water too quickly will mean your coffee drip too fast, and your coffee will taste weak.

Aeropress

The Aerobie Aeropress is a quick and innovative way to brew fresh coffee. It’s compact, satisfying and makes amazing tasting coffee, which is brewed in no time at all once you’ve mastered the method.

The Aeropress comes with a scoop and filters, so you can measure out the exact right amount of coffee for a perfect brew with ease. This is one of the easiest ways to make freshly brewed coffee, especially if you’re on a strict morning schedule and don’t have time to wait around for a drip coffee to brew.

Cold Brew

You may have seen Cold Brew on the menu at Starbucks in the summer months, or available in the supermarket fridges, but you can brew it at home for a cheaper and more freshly made drink! All you need is a large jar, coffee grind and something to filter out the grounds, such as a cheesecloth or you could use a French Press.

Cold Brew coffee is naturally sweeter tasting and less bitter than a hot brew. This means if you’re trying to watch the calories that coffee can add up from sugar, cream and syrups, you can avoid these and still enjoy a fresh brew.

The really great thing about Cold Brew is it will last in the fridge for up to two weeks, so you can make a big batch and then you have fresh and delicious coffee on tap. Check out this recipe for big-batch Cold Brew.
