Here is How To Make Jeni’s Ice Cream At Home

Jenny from the block? No! Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream is all the rage right now. It’s the ice cream you NEED in your freezer right now. If you’re lucky enough to buy it from a store nearby, count your blessings. They also ship, so how great is that! For those of you in areas that don’t carry her ice cream brand, here’s how to make Jeni’s Ice Cream at home.

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream

Clean eating takes time and commitment to really do it right. Clean eating is all about eating real foods, not those that have been processed. However, every once in a while your sweet tooth will kick in. You don’t have to feel guilty about eating Jeni’s Ice Cream when the carvings hit. This ice cream brand is one of the cleaner ones on the market. They are a Certified B Corporation because they meet rigorous standards with flying colors. Thank goodness for healthy ice cream options.

At Jeni’s Ice Cream, they take the time to make their ice cream with real flavors and colors. No artificial ingredients here! The ice cream is also made without all the emulsifiers (an agent added to food to keep substances mixed together), which is why you see so many ingredients on other ice cream labels. Still, Jeni’s Ice Cream comes out smooth and dessert ready. They tend to be a little pricey ($12 a pint), but it pays to know what you are putting into your body.

1. Gather The Ingredients

Just like with Jeni’s Ice Cream, when you are making ice cream at home, you don’t want any artificial flavors in it. It kind of defeats the point of eating clean. Start with simple ingredients like heavy cream, whole milk (other milks can be substituted), sugar and sea salt. For the vanilla flavor, instead of using syrup, you can use a real vanilla bean! Just make sure it’s cut in half when it is time to add it to the mixture! No ice cream would be complete without add ins like candies, brownies and cookies. Now, that you have everything together, we can start mixing!

2. Mixing Everything Together

You get the best of both worlds (insert Hannah Montana’s theme song) with this at home ice cream recipe. Now, that everything is together, you can start the mixture. You’ll want to start by adding half the heavy cream, sea salt and sugar into a saucepan. Next, you’ll start to flavor your ice cream. In this case were starting the basic vanilla, this way you can mix the add ins later. Add the vanilla bean seeds into your sauce pan and also the pod itself. Hint: Jeni’s Ice Cream also uses real flavors in their ice cream.

3. Heating the Mixture

You are half way there! Now, that the basic ingredients are in the sauce pan you can heat the mixture on medium heat. You’ll do this until the sugar melts. Once it does, remove from the heat and add the rest of the ingredients into the mixture. Add in the rest of the heavy cream and milk. Mix well so everything is combined smoothly. Chill for about 30 minutes.

4. Churning The Ice Cream

Now, you’re ready to make the actual ice cream! Take your mixture, minus the vanilla bean pods, and give it a couple quick whisks. This way everything is combined evenly and smooth. Hint: if you are adding anything into the ice cream, do so now. Once it is ready, pour the mixture and follow the directions on the ice cream maker for churning times.

5. Ready To Serve

Once the ice cream is done, you’ll want to transfer it into a container that you can freeze and serve out of. If you’re not immediately eating it, you’ll want to chill your ice cream until you’re ready. If you can’t wait to eat it, simply put it into smaller bowls and add on your favorite toppings. Don’t skip on the sprinkles! Ta-da. You now have Jeni’s Ice Cream made right in your own kitchen.

1. Gather The Ingredients

Making ice cream without a ice cream maker is a little different from the previous recipe, but the end results are totally worth it. You want to start by making sure you have everything you need for the mixture. You’ll need chilled whole milk and heavy cream. This is important, so place these items in the fridge before starting the mixture! You will also need sugar, sea salt and vanilla beans. We prefer using beans, but you can use vanilla extract if you prefer.

2. Mixing Everything Together

Now comes the fun part! Start with a large mixing bowl and combine together the milk and sugar. You will mix these two together until the sugar is dissolved; usually this take a couple of minutes. Then once the sugar is completely dissolved, stir in the heavy cream, sea salt and vanilla bean seeds. Hint: you’ll get these seeds by cutting the vanilla bean in half, long ways. It’s also closer to Jeni’s Ice Cream, since they don’t use artificial flavors in their recipe. No judgement if you use vanilla extract though, the taste should be similar!

3. Chilling And Serving

After everything is combined, place the mixture into an air tight container and place in the freezer until firm. If your ingredients (heavy cream and whole milk) were already chilled to begin with, it will help cut down on chill time. Then when the ice cream is firm, you are ready to serve! Break out the bowls, spoons and toppings. Arrange your ice cream to your liking and dig in! You have a homemade recipe that could pass for Jeni’s Ice Cream.
