Healthy Snacks You Need To Be Filling Up On

Trying to find a happy medium between heavily dieting and consuming a large pizza at midnight? These healthy snacks are great for you and will make you feel full so you can avoid the late night orders. We all know we are guilty of eating pretty decently the entire day, but when you get home at night you are so damn hungry and that bag of chips is just staring you right in the face. Although we try not to eat late into the night because we don’t want our food to just be sitting inside of you while you sleep not burning calories as fast as the would burn while you are awake and still moving around, there are snacks you can eat that are great for you and you won’t be packing on the pounds.

1. Popcorn

This is a tasty snack that, little do you know, is a healthy snack too! As long as you don’t load it with butter, and other processed seasonings, that can really pack on the calories. Purchasing a healthy popcorn that has light or no salt is a much better snack than sitting and eating a bag of chips. Popcorn is a healthy whole grain food that does not have many calories, but the best part is that it is high in fiber. When it comes to snacking, fiber is good because your goal is to ditch that pesky bit of hunger. The fiber in popcorn will fill you up, and keep you full longer, so over time you are not taking in unnecessary calories. Skinny Pop is my favorite choice!

2. Almonds

Almonds are a healthy snack that bring nothing bad to the table. This snack is another fiber-packed food as well as a protein packed food. This is going to keep you full, preventing you from eating a ton of food later when you’re REALLY hungry helping decrease your calorie intake. Almonds can help lower cholesterol, blood sugar levels, and blood pressure. They contain lots of Vitamin E, magnesium, and healthy fats. Almonds are a healthy snack that is going to keep your body functioning properly and keep you from binge eating later on!

3. Cottage Cheese with fruit

Cottage cheese is filled with proteins, vitamins, and minerals. One of the best minerals this healthy snack has to offer is calcium. This is great for your teeth and bones. Unlike other dairy products though, cottage cheese is high in casein which means this is a slow digesting protein. This means it feeds your muscles all night long and keeps you from waking up starving (talk about a great late night snack!). Pairing this healthy snack with some fruit adds even more flavor and a low-calorie delicious food to indulge on!

4. Greek yogurt

Yogurt, in general, is a good healthy snack to enjoy. It is filled with good bacteria that keeps your body healthy. A great choice of yogurt, though, is Greek yogurt. Even though regular yogurt provides a lot more calcium, the Greek yogurt gives you lots of protein and much less sugar. Greek yogurt, because it is high in protein, is going to once again keep you full longer, which helps you lose or maintain weight as you are not eating as much. Greek yogurt can also be mixed with a lot of other foods like cereal, granola, or fruit to give you a healthy snack with even more flavor! It can also be used to make a dip rather than something with much more calories! Some people even replace their sour cream with yogurt!

5. Veggies and hummus

When it comes to eating veggies and hummus, you are in for a treat. The great news is veggies are zero food. This means that there are no calories in vegetables, only good minerals and vitamins to keep your body moving. That being said, you’re going to get those calories from your dip. Hummus is a tasty dip made from beans. That way it is something a bit healthier for you which would be a better choice compared to something with higher caloric intake. However, a little dip isn’t going to kill you. When trying to live a healthy lifestyle, you need to have a meal plan that is achievable. You are going to fall off the wagon, but that doesn’t mean you don’t get back on it. You have to treat yourself sometimes!
