10 Healthy Snacks For The Busy Millennial

College is a time where you are preparing to launch out into your future. Of course you’re going to be so busy that you simply don’t have much time to prep or eat meals. We have compiled simple and healthy snacks for the busy millennial. You can grab-and-go and not feel guilty later with these incredible healthy snacks.

The Green Smoothie

It seems like this jade-colored, unicorn liquid is all we ever hear about. But for once, the gossips were right. If you haven’t been adding one of these smoothies to your diet, you really are missing out. There are loads of recipes out there to tweak so that you can have the perfect green smoothie for your individualized taste. A green smoothie is the perfect way to boost your diet with micro-nutrients (vitamins, minerals) and keep you feeling and looking great! Make it the night before and grab-and-go to that tortuous 8am class. This is one of the best healthy snacks!

Raw Fruits and Vegetables with Nut Butter

Raw fruits and vegetables are full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and many more healthy benefiting properties. They will always reign as one of the best gifts you can offer your body. With a variety of nut butters, you can change up the tastes so your palette doesn’t get bored. If you want energy and guilt-free snacking, grab one of these affordable snacks. Try a banana and a Jiff to Go cup, sold at Walmart. This is one of our favorite healthy snacks!

Trail Mix

A bag of trail mix is like life. When you reach your hand in the bag, you never know what you’re going to get, but you pray for something good. Trail mix is the perfect to go snack. It is easy to pack and carry, and it is always full of great things. With a variety of nuts and pretzels (both of which are great for you) and even a little chocolate kiss thrown in, trail mix never disappoints you (if only life were so simple). This is one of the healthy snacks you’ll love!

Fruit and Nut Bar

A fruit and nut bar is a great grab-and-go snack for the busy college student. It is full of protein, healthy fats, and fruits. It is great for breakfast, pre- or post-workout snack, or a delicious sanity-break during that boring geology film. These bars are both athlete and couch-potato friendly snacks. So now everyone can feel good about themselves.

Yogurt

This may seem simple, but yogurt, especially Greek Yogurt, has a sizable amount of protein for such a small container. If you’re trying to stay away from dairy, then soy yogurt is a great alternative. If soy isn’t your thing, then there is yogurt made with Almond milk. My point is that there is a yogurt to suit anyone’s taste and dietary needs. You can even DIY your own yogurt to control the amount of sugar (if you’re feeling like the Barefoot Contessa).

Hummus or Curried Chickpeas

Hummus is a great snack for the hungry person on the run. Walmart even makes it in grab-and-go pouches now. Hummus is high in plant-protein and fiber, making it great for digestion and energy. Hopefully you know that hummus is made from chickpeas (come on college students); if you aren’t feeling like you want hummus that day, you can grab some chickpeas, throw some spices on them, and bake them to create a tasty chickpea alternative.

No-Bake Energy Bites

For the Gordon Ramsey in all of us, I pitch you the idea of the no-bake energy bite. It does require a little planning and a little make ahead time, but it will be worth it. With this healthy snack, you have an option that will leave you lean and mean (but not as mean as Gordon Ramsey). No-bake energy bites are great for anyone looking to shed the extra weight or maintain their college physique. This is one of the healthy snacks you need to try!

Chips- Kale, Lentil, and Quinoa

If you slice anything slim enough and put spices on it, it becomes a chip (and tastes delicious). It is a law of nature. So believe me when I say that kale, lentil, and quinoa chips are incredible. The best thing about this snack is that you can trick your psyche into thinking you are eating regular chips. However, with these chips you are getting large amounts of Vitamins A and C and other health benefits.

Power Bowls

Finally you can tell your mother that you are using the Tupperware she gave you when you went off to college. Power bowls are an easy make-ahead snack, that is kind of ingenious. Start with your favorite protein, add in any vegetables or fruit you want, maybe some guacamole on the side for healthy fats, and then seal the lid. The power bowl is a very healthy, very underrated addition to the busy college students’ life. This bowl will leave you with healthy energy for hours.

Salad

The good old salad. The salad is a classic, like Neil Young, Coco Chanel, and Bobby Flay. We had to put salad on the list, because there is nothing that can take its place. You can make it out of spinach, kale, lettuce, arugula, the list goes on and on. You can add in protein, like lentils or chicken. You can add in fruit, like pears or strawberries. Plant based protein, like leafy greens, are what fill you up and dismiss hunger. If you want to feel full and crave less sugar, the salad is the ultimate choice when it comes to healthy snacks.
