10 Healthy New Years Resolutions Your Future Self Will Thank You For

New year, new me. Everyone has said it, January is the time when people look to make healthy new years resolutions. There are tons of positive changes you can make this new year to better yourself. From fitness to food here are 10 healthy New Years resolutions your future self will thank you for.

1. Working Out

Hitting the gym on January 1st is a common healthy new years resolution for most people. Start your workout journey slowly especially if you are new to exercise or have recently taken a break. Remember to focus on long term progress as opposed to short term, don’t freak out if you miss a day! Come summer your new body will thank you.

2. Cooking/meal prep

Start your week on Sunday by planning your meals for the upcoming week.  This healthy new years resolution will ensure you have healthy food available daily, and you can save the money that would normally be spent on takeout.

3. Take the stairs

An easy way to incorporate exercise into your daily routine is to sneak it in little by little. Small acts such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator or walking a few blocks instead of taking a taxi can help you feel better in the long run.

4. Take personal time

Anxiety and depression are prevalent in our communities. If you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed it is okay to take time out for yourself.  Personal time is a healthy new years resolution that can help better your health, after all everyone needs a mental health day.

5. Make (and keep) you annual wellness appointments

Preventative care is suuuper important. Most insurance companies cover annual appointments  for physicals, gyno appointments, and many more. Take advantage.

6. Sleep

This is a simple but very important healthy new years resolution. Getting a full 8 hours can prove super difficult with the frantic schedules that everyone keeps. A full nights sleep will help you function, leave you feeling refreshed, and leaves you ready to take on the day ahead.

7. Find a stress reducing outlet

Between work school, family, and everything else stress can quickly accumulate and can be tough to find a healthy new years resolutions that you are happy with. Take care of yourself with this healthy new years resolution by finding an outlet that you enjoy. You can try activities such as painting and reading or you can take the tech route and download apps such as Pacifica or Happify.

8. Drink more water (and less caffeine)

Okay, okay I know that this one seems crazy. Drink less caffeine?? Instead of reaching for your usual cup of coffee try to swap it out for water. Water has an insane amount of health benefits such as clear skin, productivity, and overall body health. Always keep some in your purse or bag so you are always hydrated.

9. Say ‘no’

Don’t be afraid to say no. Everyone is very busy and being pulled in several different directions. It is okay to say no, you do not want to bite off more than you can chew.

10. Read

There are tons of healthy new years resolutions that are for your mind. Take your down time and try to immerse yourself into a book.
