Healthy cosmetics mean healthy skin. If organic food, green cleaning products, and environmentally safe products can transform our quality of life, then why can’t clean makeup? Being aware of what goes on our body as well as inside it not only gives us peace of mind, but it also leads to healthier skin. Besides, they don’t hurt the environment and they smell yummy.
RMS Beauty, founded by makeup artist Rose-Marie Swift, is a cruelty-free, non-GMO, and hypoallergenic healthy cosmetics line that doesn’t use parabens, silicone, talc, or any other kind of nasty things. Their “Un” Cover-Up Foundation is the first product they have ever launched – and it is amazing. This foundation is lightweight, gentle, and matte yet still is radiant enough for a healthy glowing look. The creamy formula provides a medium to a full finish, which works well for sensitive or combination skin. You can get away with using a pea-sized amount on your entire face.

These deeply pigmented lipsticks are bold and provide lasting color. Unlike wax lipsticks, this formula keeps your lips moisturized through a fusion of cocoa and shea butter and vitamin E. They also use natural pigments packed with antioxidants, from fruits like cherries to chocolate (honestly, who doesn’t want chocolate on their lips?). On average, we unknowingly consume up to nine pounds of lipstick in our lifetime. Nine pounds! At the end of the day, knowing what goes on your mouth and into our body truly matters.

An organic mascara that lengthens and thickens your lashes? Yes, it exists. W3LL PEOPLE’s makeup products use high-quality organic ingredients like aloe, chamomile, and green tea. You are not only getting stunning lashes, but you are also getting added nourishment for your eyes. Their Expressionist Mascara has been touted for its glossy black formula and zero-clump wand. It leaves your eyes feeling conditioned and moisturized instead of stiff like plastic. Generic mascara usually requires two to three coats to get adequate volume, but this brand will make your eyes pop with just one coat.

Many women love how this foundation doesn’t settle into cracks, fine lines, or wrinkles. It is a creamy stick that goes on silky smooth and can double as a concealer because of its strong pigmentation. Not to mention, the handy stick form gives it a portable, no-mess perk. All of Vapour’s packaging is made from recycled materials. You’re welcome, Mother Earth.

This “all-in-one color creator” belongs to a whimsically stylish healthy cosmetics line. If you don’t fall in love with Elate’s soft, dewy lip creams, you certainly will fall for their boho-chic packaging. Elate is a Canadian company that only uses clean ingredients in their products and rustic elegance for their boxes. Their much-applauded universal crème, “Love”, doubles as a lip balm and blush. Although it works more like a lip tint than a stick, the blush can stay on through an entire work shift.

Basically, refillable eyeshadow means not contributing to the abundance of plastic we have on this planet. Yay! Alima Pure makes bold eyeshadows that double as hydration for your skin because they add super-ingredients like avocado oil, rice powder, and jojoba oil to them. This brand is ideal for natural “no-makeup” looks. It is lightweight, mineral-based powders that are soft on the skin but hide pores and blemishes like a pro. Their eyeshadows are especially easy to manipulate in order to achieve an enviable “smokey eye”.

Oat milk foundation…strangely sounds kind of delicious right? Created by Australian healthy cosmetics company Ere Perez, this non-greasy formula was developed to be long-lasting and sweat-proof while still allowing the skin to breathe. This makes it ideal for oily skin. It absorbs quickly to provide a matte finish with just a touch of dew, and for blotchy red skin types, the oats provide an anti-inflammatory benefit to even out tone. Oats also help to balance the skin’s natural pH levels and gently exfoliate dead cells.

If the name grabbed you first, then you may enjoy knowing that it was inspired by what this loveable cult-favorite company puts in their products. This free-spirited company handcrafts its multi-purpose herbal “potions” with ethically harvested plants. For example, their gorgeous lip and cheek stain are made from beetroot and alkanet (an herb whose roots are extensively used as a red dye). If this brand doesn’t make you feel like a flower queen when you wear it, then nothing will.

Here’s a healthy cosmetics brand you have probably seen in your local organic food store. Before this article, I didn’t even know they made mascara. All I knew was that their roll-on perfume rack at Whole Foods is my happy place. Apparently, Pacifica has used its vegan and cruelty-free powers to create a hydrating mascara using coconut oil and vitamin B. Even the brush is made from vegan materials. It isn’t heavy or flaky, lasts all day, and will never dry out.

ILIA’s acclaimed products feature a talc-free setting powder that creates a finish that is so soft and blurred you might think you’ve been airbrushed. Their loose powder uses anti-bacterial, oil-balancing ingredients like rosemary and bamboo for added skincare perks. It works especially well at brightening the undereye area without settling because of its finely milled powder. If you have oily skin or find yourself needing to touch up your makeup often, then this is definitely the product for you. It is a quick and easy way to brighten up your face (and your day).

Bite Beauty is an influential healthy cosmetics line exclusive to lip products. They have over thirty-nine shades so when I say they’re good, I mean they are damn good. Their satin lip has over twelve different oils in them, including sweet almond, coconut, passionflower, and sunflower seed wax! The colors are super pigmented, which means you can skip your daily lip liner and won’t have to reapply after a cup of coffee. If that doesn’t convince you, then maybe the luscious cherry, mint, and vanilla scents will.

Juice Beauty’s Illuminator is an innovative multi-tool that can be used for way more than just bronzer and highlighter. It can add glow to your foundation, give you a “natural” highlight, or you can use the bronzer to customize your foundation color. You won’t need to reapply it throughout the day. It excels at long-wear and has a universally flattering finish. Honestly, contouring, bronzer and highlighting always confused me, but Juice Beauty makes it easy in a two-step process with zero weird face diagrams on the back of the package.
