Healthiest Halloween Candy That Is Not As Bad For You As You Think

Halloween for many people is just the best time of the year. Not only is it fall which means the changing of seasons, falling leaves, pumpkin spice everywhere. Comfortable clothes with lots of reasons to cuddle and hot a mug of hot chocolate at night. It’s the perfect season for so many. Many except your diet maybe. With candy coming from all sides it’s hard to keep to a healthy diet during this season when there are just so many temptations. So what is the healthiest Halloween candy out there? Well, we have a general idea that will both satiate that Halloween sweet tooth, but also keep you feeling fit as a fiddle.

Which One Do You Pick?

There are lots of different ways to go about determining what exactly is the healthiest Halloween candy out there, but for this thought experiment, we’re going to come up with a few ideas. First, off it can’t be made completely out of sugar. Sure, you could argue that smarties are the healthiest since they are seen as usually the lowest calorie count, but let’s face it at the end of the day they are basically just sugar tablets with a little bit of food coloring added to them. While not completely unhealthy, there has got to be a better thing out there that people can choose. The second requirement is that it can’t be some variation or variety of a much more well-known candy out there. The reason for that is that while there might be healthier dark chocolate of your favorite candy, since dark chocolate does contain less sugar, there’s no guarantee that you’d be able to find it. Since it is a variation there’s a large possibility that the candy is only available in certain areas or for a short amount of time. So for the purpose of this thought project, we’re not counting those either. And Lastly, there has to be some kind of nutrition value to the candy. There has to be something of substance that makes the candy actually healthy. So with all that taken into the conclusion, we’ve reached for being the healthiest Halloween candy you can get are caramel apples.

Why Caramel Apples?

First off, caramel apples are a staple when it comes to the Halloween season and no one can deny that. Weather is taking a hayride through the backwoods on a tractor, or going to your local autumn fair, it’s almost a guarantee that you can find caramel apples wherever you go during this spook filled season. Not only that but this is the healthiest Halloween candy because it’s not nearly as terrible for you like all the other options that are out there. Sure, the coating on the outside is still caramel, but the inside is still a sweet and crispy apple. Not to mention a big upside to the caramel apples is that they are one of the easier treats that you could make for yourself at home. Serve them at a Halloween party or even just make a dozen for yourself to much on throughout the season as you please.

How Healthy Are They Really?

If you really had to put it on a scale then caramel apples probably aren’t as healthy as just eating a regular apple, yes, it’s an apple but it does how a caramel outside that still filled with sugar. That being said though there’s really not a huge difference between the two when you look at thing in the long run. But let’s face it, compared to the bars of candy that is practically condensed and processed bars of fact and sugar, it’s a pretty good alternative compared to everything else. Another upside to caramel apples is that there are so many varieties of apples to choose from that you don’t really need to settle for just one set and standardized version. You could have a Honeycrisp, a gala, a granny smith, really any apple you can think of combined with a bit of caramel, homemade or otherwise, is even to make what’s probably the healthiest Halloween candy out there.

Are There Alternatives?

Well, you could just eat an apple. You might scoff but apples are a fantastic treat on their own for those who are aiming to be just a bit more health-conscious on a day to day basis. Even so, you do miss out on the fun indulgence of having that sweet and sticky and slightly nutty flavor of the caramel apple experience. Another alternative that you can go for is instead of possibly reaching for a caramel apple you could reach for a dark chocolate coated apple or apple slices. Not only is dark chocolate much better for you than milk chocolate, but it also really compliments the flavor of the sweet and crisp apple. Also, of course, something to keep in mind is whether or not you’re making them at home or buying them store-bought. Store-bought will probably have a few more additives within the packaging and overall production of making these delicious treats rather than just making them at home for yourself. So if you really want the healthiest Halloween candy that you can get your hands on, the best way to do that is probably to make them yourself.

Just Enjoy The Season

At the end of the day, it really doesn’t matter if you have a few extra pieces of candy so long as you consume everything in moderation. Yes, you can go through all the trouble of making some delicious caramel apples, but just keep in mind that the Halloween season is meant to be enjoyed, and nobody is going to judge you for having a snickers bar here and there. So when it comes right down to it, just enjoy yourself and eat what you like so long as it’s in a regulated way that fits your specific dietary needs, because at the end of the day Halloween is something that should and is enjoyed by everyone, not just little kids. So let yourself get your spooky on, and have a chocolate bar or a caramel apple or whatever it is you want, the season is yours to do with as you please.
