10 Harry Potter Inspired Cocktails Every Muggle Should Try

Who doesn’t love Harry Potter and also enjoys a delicious cocktail every so often? Let’s toast to “The Boy Who Lived” and everything magic with some boozy drinks inspired by the characters and magical world of Harry Potter. These Harry Potter-inspired cocktails will have every muggle wishing they could cast spells, ride a Hippogriff, and partake in a game of Quidditch before the night is over.

1. Boozy Butterbeer

Let’s start with a classic treat that Harry Potter and his friends might enjoy while on a trip to Hogsmeade. This is the perfect cocktail for a wintery night in with friends maybe binge-watching all eight Harry Potter films.

Serving size 6-8!

  • 6-8 tablespoons butterscotch sauce
  • 3 cups apple cider
  • 1 cup bourbon whiskey
  • 2 cups ginger beer
  • Whipped cream for garnish

Heat cider, bourbon, and butterscotch sauce in a medium saucepan until the butterscotch dissolves and the mixture is steaming hot. Remove from heat and stir in the ginger beer. Ladle into mugs and serve with a hearty helping of whipped cream on top.

2. Felix Felicis or “Liquid Luck”

We could all use a little bit of liquid luck sometimes, especially when we’re trying to talk to the mysterious cute wizard that just walked into the party. This bubbly cocktail will give you all the “luck” you need.

  • 1/4 oz. simple syrup
  • 1/4 oz. lemon juice
  • 1.5 oz. ginger beer
  • Champagne or any other sparkling wine

Mix simple syrup and lemon juice in the bottom of a champagne flute. Add ginger beer, then fill the glass with champagne.

3. The Phoenix Feather

This wine-based cocktail inspired by the phoenix, Fawkes, resembles the reincarnation of the phoenix from its flames. Beautiful and tasty, you’ll look as glamorous as Dumbledore while drinking it.

  • 2 oz. Lillet Blanc
  • 1.5 oz. Campari
  • 1 oz. fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice
  • Seltzer or club soda

Combine Lillet, Campari, and grapefruit juice in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until the ingredients are combined. Strain into a Collins glass filled with ice cubes and top with seltzer.

4. The Goblet of Fire

This fiery cocktail will have you feeling like a Triwizard Champion. This cocktail does include a flame, so please use all safety precautions while making, serving, and consuming this drink inspired by the magical item responsible for reuniting Harry Potter and Voldemort.

  • 1 oz. vodka
  • 1 oz. blue curacao
  • 3 oz. lemonade
  • A splash of Bacardi 151
  • Pinch of cinnamon

Pour vodka, blue curacao. and lemonade into a goblet-type glass (a wine glass works just fine). Top with a splash of 151 proof rum. Carefully light on fire. Add the pinch of cinnamon to the flames, which will cause a little spark.

5. Pumpkintini

Inspired by a popular Harry Potter treat, pumpkin pasties, the Pumpkintini provides a warm and October feeling to any cocktail party.

  • 2 sheets of graham crackers
  • 6 tablespoons white rum
  • 6 tablespoons pureed pumpkin or pumpkin pie filling
  • 1.5 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 tablespoon whiskey
  • A pinch of ground cinnamon, cloves, and ground ginger; leave out if you are using pumpkin pie filling
  • 2 tablespoons coconut milk

Place graham crackers in a zip-lock plastic bag and roll with a rolling pin to crush. Pour crumbs onto a plate and set aside. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice to within an inch of the top. Add all ingredients to the cocktail shaker. Shake thoroughly to combine ingredients. Wet the edge of a martini glass and dip the rim into the graham cracker crumbs. Strain drink and pour into prepared glass and serve.

6. The Harry Potter

Inspired by our all-time favorite wizard, this cocktail also provides a warm Fall feeling, encapsulating Harry’s bravery, determination, and love for his friends and family in one glass. It’ll make you feel like the main character.

  • 1/2 oz. brandy
  • 1/2 oz. Kahlua
  • 1/4 oz. butterscotch schnapps
  • 1/2 oz. Half and Half cream
  • Wafer stick for garnish

Fill a martini glass with cold water and place in the freezer for 2 minutes to chill. Combine ingredients into cocktail shaker. Shake to combine ingredients. Pour into chilled glass. Garnish with wafer stick.

7. The Hermione Granger

We’ve all wanted to feel like Harry Potter’s smartest friend Hermione Granger. This cocktail evokes Hermione’s smarts, wit, and caring nature all in one drink.

  • 1.5 oz. gin
  • 3/4 oz. apricot brandy
  • 3/4 oz. sweet vermouth
  • 1 teaspoon grenadine
  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 cherries

Fill martini glass with cold water and place in the freezer for 2 minutes to chill. Add ingredients to shaker. Shake to combine ingredients. Rim glass with sugar. Pour contents into chilled and rimmed glass. Garnish with cherries.

8. The Ron Weasley

Inspired by Harry Potter’s best friend, this cocktail evokes all things Ron including a reddish tint to resemble his hair. Just like Ron, this drink will have you feeling things intensely, passionately, and even sometimes a little anxiously.

  • 1.5 oz. vodka
  • 1/2 oz. peach schnapps
  • Splash of grenadine
  • Lemonade
  • Half a peach
  • Lemon slice
  • Maraschino cherry

Cut peach into slices. Add vodka, schnapps, and grenadine to a glass with ice and peaches. Fill the remainder of the glass with lemonade. Garnish with a peach slice, lemon slice, and cherry.

9. The Draco Malfoy

We couldn’t forget a cocktail inspired by everybody’s favorite boy to dislike. Similar to Malfoy, this drink is simple but classy and finds itself to be just a little bit better than everyone else. Perfect for those nights when you feel like embodying your inner villain.

  • 2 oz. gin
  • 1 tablespoon dry vermouth
  • 2 tablespoons olive juice
  • 2 gruyere stuffed olives

Fill cocktail glass with cold water and place in the freezer for 2 minutes to chill. Fill cocktail shaker with gin, vermouth, olive juice. Cover and shake until the ingredients are combined. Strain and pour into the chilled glass. Garnish with olives.

10. The Death Eater

Let’s end this list with a Harry Potter-inspired shot! Just like the Death Eaters in the beloved series, this shot packs a punch and you’ll realize why these guys were on Voldemort’s side.

  • 1 oz. Jägermeister
  • 1 oz. Red Bull
  • Splash of grenadine

Pour Jägermeister and Red Bull into a shaker with ice. Shake until combined. Fill shot glass then top with grenadine. Cheers!
