It’s that time of year again. As the leaves begin to turn and the familiar smell of pumpkin spice fills the air, every college girl starts to plan which “form of lingerie and animal ears” she will wear come October 31st. Ah, Autumn, how I’ve miss you, old friend! Don’t know what to wear for Halloween but know you have a lot of makeup? Keep reading for 15 Halloween makeup ideas that will make your costume!
While there’s nothing wrong with the old Mean Girls standby, it’s hardly original. If you’re really looking to rack up the likes on Instagram this year, opt for something a bit more daring like a full face of makeup. You can still dress provocatively without being #basic.
My favorite Halloween makeup look is the classic skeleton. I like it because it’s simple yet makes a statement. This look is guaranteed to garner you some attention and make you a contender for best costume.
Check out my sister’s masterpiece!

The next thing I think of when I think Halloween is “vampire”. This is a pretty easy look to accomplish as it requires cosmetics you probably already own (black eyeliner, dark lipstick, smokey eyeshadow). The other great thing about dressing up as a vampire is that it doesn’t require a full-face of makeup unlike some of the other looks on this list, so you won’t have to worry about sweating off all of your diligently applied product.

Another way to incorporate a skeleton into your costume in a perhaps more feminine way is to dress as a caraca. Halloween is the American version of the Day of the Dead, so it makes sense to celebrate both holidays in one. I love this makeup look, especially the flowers in the hair. Somehow the artist behind it was able to make a skull look sexy.

Who says superhero costumes ought to be left the guys? I can dress as Batman and look just as hot (if not more so than) any guy. Take your hero costume to the next level by ditching the standard mask and recreating the character via face paint.

Personally I think I’d have more fun dressing up as a villain, though, like Catwoman, Two-face, or the Joker.

In case it wasn’t already obvious, my sister gets excited about dressing up for Halloween. In addition to painting her face to look like Jack Skellington, she also dabbles in applying fake blood, false protrusions, and this ever-attractive skin-mask (pictured below). Take a gander at her cosmetology skills.
These images may appear intimidating to recreate, but all the supplies she used can be found at your local crafts store. If you’re looking to stand out in the crowd, these nightmare-inducing looks should do the trick!

Since 1989, Ariel has been one of the most beloved girls’ costumes on the market. However, in recent years mermaids have become an increasingly popular Halloween choice among grown women (including Kim K).
It probably has something to do with the sexy shell bra-top and hip hugging “tail”, but this movement is starting to sweep college campuses as well. I’ll admit, the makeup looks that accompany these costumes are stunning, and if gore isn’t your thing this is a hot alternative.

Speaking of Disney princesses, they’re always a solid go-to costume choice because they’re recognizable. You can pretty much adapt your makeup for whichever character you choose and there are plenty of tutorials out there to show you how.

Probably the most relevant character of the moment—and predicted most-popular Halloween costume of 2016—is Harley Quinn. The commercial success of Suicide Squad is in large part due to Harley (in this blogger’s humble opinion).
If people choose to pay tribute to the sexy siren by dressing up in red and blue on All Hallow’s Eve, I say more power to them! In order to make your costume stand out from the 500 other Harley’s at the frat party, try incorporating a comic inspired makeup look like this one:
This next look does not involve a ton of makeup (pretty much a dark pout and side braids), but it is a head-to-toe ensemble that demands proper attitude. Wednesday Addams is one of my favorite characters of all time due to the fact that she does not give a BLEEP. She also happens to be perfect for a Halloween costume because she embodies the spirit of the holiday with her dark demeanor.

If you’re into the sexy look, you can incorporate that into your makeup as well. Try creating your own mask with face paint or eyeliner for a Fifty Shades-inspired outfit.
Another beauty option is a 1940’s pin-up style. This look is classic and easy to do, plus you can use it for several costumes including Allie from The Notebook, Marilyn Monroe, a ‘50’s housewife, etc.

Clowns are creepy. There is no way under the Sun to make a clown look sexy, I’m sorry about it. However, you can rock some sick circus makeup and not look like you’re about to kidnap the trick-or-treaters. With a few subtle tweaks, this look can also be used for several other costumes including the mad-hatter, a jester, or a ring-leader.

Maybe you like scaring the shit out of drunk coeds. If so, try going as a character from American Horror Story. They have plenty of disturbing makeup looks to choose from, but my personal favorite is Twisty the clown.
To end on a lighter note, you can always dress up as your favorite animal (or Snapchat dog filter) for a cute makeup look that still looks like you put effort into your costume.
Pro Tip: You can make yourself a ‘Party Animal’ and hold a champagne/wine glass with your animal costume.
