As college students, we are naturally ready to hate early morning classes. We need our beauty sleep, especially after shotgunning 10 beers, am I right? Well, morning classes are not all that bad if you are prepared. For example, you can park literally anywhere you want and there’s not usually that much foot traffic on campus. Take full advantage of early morning classes with these tips. Always remember, that the early bird gets the worm!
The first alarm is to bring your sleeping body back to the human world. But you are obviously going to need some more time. So the second one is to be like “Alrighty buddy, you better start getting your s**t together!” And then the last one is that brutal one where you are brought back to reality. Trust me, the three system works because you get that extra time of sleep but you’re not turning fifteen alarms off and on which is not only annoying for you but also your roommate. (Even if they are lying to you, and tell you it’s not a big deal.)
When you have an early morning class, the last thing you are going to want to do is to wake up even earlier to finish up an assignment you procrastinated so that you could make happy hour. Trust me, do not do this. Get it done the day before so you can take as much time as you need in the early morning. You will not only get better sleep knowing that your work is done, but you’ll have more time to relax and enjoy your morning coffee.
Always, always, always, check your planner the night before your early morning class. I recommend setting an alarm for a time that you know you will be home and able to check your planner. (A.KA. 11:00?? midnight??) So many times students forget that an assignment is due in class. When you have later afternoon classes, you have that extra cushion time to get it done before. Unfortunately, as many of us know all too well, that time does not exist early in the morning no matter what we tell ourselves. Plus, when desperate times call for desperate measures, it sucks having to wake up at 6:00 am just to rant in a discussion board post.
Although this may sound a little elementary school to you, I promise it will save you a good five to ten minutes in the morning. (Which we all know five to ten minutes in the morning equates to twenty minutes in regular time). So whether it’s a dress or the same sweatpants you have been wearing for a week straight, simply put it on your chair or table for easy access.
Similar to making sure your assignments are completed, ensure that you have all your materials in your backpack the night before. Nothing is worse than when you stay up all night working on something, only to realize you forgot it. Make sure you have your laptop (if applicable), assignments, textbooks, chargers, planner, wallet, and all your other school needs. This will save you that panic search when the teacher is walking around your class and you know for a fact that you do not have what they are looking for.
Even though it is going to seem like you have plenty of time in those ten minutes before your class’s start time, be sure to always leave five to ten minutes of cushion. This mainly pertains to people who drive to class since there can be any number of things that delay your trip. You are going to want to stay at home for as long as possible but trust me, that becomes a sticky situation when you are driving and realize that traffic is even worse than usual. So don’t sweat it. Just leave a good amount of cushion time for you to not only get to class but to also sit in your desk for a second before it even starts.
If you are like me, you won’t want to eat after only being up for 10 minutes so odds are you’ll skip breakfast before your class. This is why it is crucial to bring a small snack to your early class. A few ideas include a granola bar, yogurt, fruit, or vegetables. Most teachers don’t mind if you snack in class as long as you are not obnoxious. @People who bring five-course meals. Give yourself that much-needed boost of energy in the early morning.
Even though this should be fairly obvious, so many students do not get enough sleep when they have early morning classes. Of course, you should go out when you feel like you can, but don’t go out every single night when you know you have to wake up early. Not getting enough sleep will cause you to stress out and get sick, therefore putting your hard-earned grades at risk. Prioritize your health by planning what days you can and cannot go out and then discipline yourself. For example, decide you can only go out on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the weekend, and then follow through with that. It’s extremely easy to get swept up in “the move” for the evening, but also remember to focus on your academics, mental health, and physical health.
So there you have it, folks! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and I hope you will take some of these tips into consideration for your next early class. Early classes can be great since you’re done earlier in the day, as long as you take care of yourself and your grades. So get some sleep, check your planner, pack your supplies, and be the first person in the class!
