This might sound like a no brainer, but drinking water is the easiest way to improve your look. Your body is 60% water, so it only makes sense that you need to keep it filled. By drinking at least six to eight glasses of water a day you can cleanse toxins from your body. Water also helps to keep your blood sugar low and skin hydrated! Say hello to hydration and goodbye to dry skin.
While it make sense to moisturize your face after you wash it, you should also be moisturizing the rest of your body as well. One of the first things you should do after a shower is apply lotion to your skin. Remember to pat your skin dry, not rub before you apply the lotion. By keeping your skin hydrated, you are allowing it to repair itself and get its healthy shine back.
Window and fan sleepers can agree on how important it is to change your sheets regularly. Not only do they eventually gain an odor, they can also be filled with bacteria. If the bacteria gets on your skin, it can cause acne (pillowcases, we’re looking at you), rashes or dry skin. To prevent this from happening, try to change your sheet weekly. While this might sound like a lot, this one habit you’ll want to keep. For added freshness use a scented fabric softener!
Not everyone is a fruit lover, but it really is one of the easier habits to get behind. It’s recommended to get two to three servings of fruit daily. If that sounds like too much to start with, gradually work up to it. Start with having some fruit with lunch or make a smoothie in the morning! You can incorporate fruit into your diet in so many ways. In addition to being healthy, eating fruit will also help to clear up your complexion and improve how you feel about yourself.
The gym life isn’t for everyone, but fitness should be. One of the hardest but most rewarding habits to get into is exercising every day. You can go for a walk, take a bike ride, kayak or even weight lift. No matter what your preference is, the most important thing is to start. Starting is the hardest part, so put one foot in front of the other and you’ll be on your way to improving your looks.
Bad posture can come from a lot of things. It can come from sitting hunched over, keeping your head down while you’re on a cell phone and a slew of other things. The good news is, it is possible to improve your posture! You can get into the habit of correcting your posture with back braces and balancing exercises. Not only will it improve how you stand and look, it can help prevent lifelong aches and pains.
Your hair can tell a lot about you. It tells others how long it’s been since you showered (unless you use dry shampoo) and what your natural hair color really is! So if you want your hair to be nice to you, you need to be nice to your hair. Get a haircut regularly, protect it from heat when styling and deep condition when necessary. Your hair can be hard to repair when it’s broken or damaged. So you’ll want to get in the habit of taking care of it sooner rather than later.
No matter who you are, you need to be taking extra care of your skin. There is no better time to start, than right now! Apply moisturizer daily (oil free recommended), exfoliate weekly and use a mask when needed. In addition to the basics, you should be using some sort of serums as well. Now you don’t have to have a 10 step routine, but a few steps will keep your skin happy, healthy and glowing.
While this might be more of a whim then a necessity for some of you, nail care can be super important. The state of your nails can actually be linked to your health. It’s important to keep them strong and healthy. At night, rub a little Vaseline into the cuticles, to help them grow stronger and longer. Make sure you are trimming and cleaning your nails on a regular basis (yes, guys you too). Add polish to keep them looking nice and to help you resist the urge to bite them!
