Guide to Eating on the Kent State Campus

Variety. That is what makes the Kent State dining plan so unique and ideal for just about every college student. Fun fact: Kent State was recently voted “Best College Dining Experience.” If you’re gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, or just plain picky, I guarantee you won’t have trouble finding something to eat here. Keep reading for the guide to eating on the Kent State campus!

Allergy Safe

Each dining hall offers Simple Servings, a station that is free of the top seven allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, wheat, soy, milk products, and eggs). The food is not only free of those allergens, but it is prepared in an allergen free kitchen space, which means even the most severe allergy will not be affected.

Vegan Mac & Cheese? Gluten free French toast?!

Prentice Hall offers a dedicated gluten free fryer, so even those with Celiac can enjoy some fries once in a while. There is also, my personal favorite, Veggie A Go-Go and Gluten-Free To-Go. Both of these services are call ahead, individually prepared food items. From vegan mac and cheese to gluten free French toast, you can truly satisfy any craving allergy free! Just remember to give the orders at least an hour to be prepared, then head on over to Prentice café, and pick it up!

Environmentally Friendly

If you want to be environmentally friendly, choose the Ozzi option. You will receive your food in a recyclable container that you then place in the Ozzi machine. You will receive a token you can use to get another container on your next order.

Nutritional Information

Kent State truly cares about the health of students, so look for the apple icon for meals that have less calories, more fruits and veggies, less fat, and more nutrients. You can also download the MyFitness Pal App to track nutrition and scan barcodes in the dining hall to give you calorie counts!

Comfort Food

If you’re in the mood for some comfort food, venture your way to Rosie’s Diner in the Rotunda. It is open 24/7, and you can always count on a great milkshake and some killer fries. Rosie’s will also deliver to your dorm from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m for those late night cram cravings, since there is never a time of day when pizza is not delicious.

Treat Yo Self

If you’re looking to treat yo self, the Schwebel Room is a great spot. From steaks to soups to sandwiches, you get a great lunch with an even better view. It’s on the third floor of the Student Center open only for lunch, just remember to make your reservation!

Food Truck

Another fun option is Fork in the Road, our very own food truck! Featuring our executive chef’s grab and go menu, grab a burger or a veggie wrap as you’re walking around campus. The truck is always moving, so follow them on Twitter @KSUFoodTruck.

Market and Deli

If you’re missing your kitchen at home, simply head on over to Munchies Market or Eastway Market to pick up some food to make for dinner. Both markets offer prepared food as well, Eastway has a full deli with Boar’s Head Deli products.

Juices, Energy Bars & Sandwiches

Let’s be honest, after you work out you are exhausted, to help refuel go to Summit Street Café. Conveniently located in the REC center pop on in to get freshly squeezed juices, pita sandwiches and energy bars.
