Customizing your clothes is one of the best ways to express yourself. It makes your fashion entirely unique and you will get to have something no one else does. Also, when customizing your clothes, you can possibly end up creating a small business for yourself. Whether you’re customizing your clothes because you want something unique or you want to showcase your skills to start a small business, you will have fun. There is a sense of satisfaction when you have an image of what you want your clothes to look like after you alter them yourself and having it come out exactly how you want. There’s also a self-esteem boost when you get to say you are the one that made it.
This is one of the easiest ways to customize your clothes. This can work on most medium to dark clothing and it makes it look so sick. A cool thing to do with bleach is to splatter it or toss it sporadically on your piece of clothing. Or, another great way to customize your clothes with bleach is to use it the same way you would tie-dye. This creates an unexpected look because tie-dye in itself is a mystery until you unwind it all. Using bleach, in the same way, creates this contrasting piece of clothing with designs that can not be recreated the exact same.
The oldest trick in the book. Who doesn’t love tie-dye? This is a great way to customize your clothes. You get to experiment with your favorite colors to create different pieces of clothes. It’s a great way to truly express yourself and be fully creative. And if the color combination doesn’t work out then you’ve got some clothes that you can lounge in. But speaking realistically here, you can’t go wrong with whatever you do with tie-dye.
A great way to either revamp your current clothes or make some thrifted clothes fit your style more is to crop it. This could be literally any article of clothing you have. Jeans, shirts, sweatshirts, etc. You simply cannot go wrong with cropping unless you didn’t make a straight line. Something that is suggested while cropping your clothes is to crop it a little longer than you actually want it. This allows you a little bit of room for mistakes, in case you actually do make a wonky line.
This is a really cool DIY clothing project you could start. You could dedicate one piece of clothing to collecting a bunch of patches to put on. Or you could get specific ones for special pieces of clothes. No matter what way you choose to style your iron ons, they will inherently tell a story. Patches are carefully picked out and/or immediately grabbed because it’s something you like. Either way, they represent you and what you like. These could be words, symbols, random patches of colors. Once you have one, you can’t help but grab a few more.
Jeans sometimes look better when they are distressed so why not do that to some of the pairs you don’t wear as much anymore? Distressing jeans is a good way to make an old pair of jeans new again. There are so many ways that you can do it too. I would suggest a few YouTube tutorials because it can be a tedious process especially if you go into it blind. Nonetheless, distressing your jeans can make you feel like you got a brand new pair. Another great way to personalize some clothes is to distress some t-shirts. We all love those oversized distressed tees that are sometimes too expensive. So, why not thrift some good oversize shirts and do it yourself? It’s a great way to make sure that it’s a shirt you will absolutely wear and it’s for a lesser cost.
Sometimes you just need a change. Or it’s an old piece of clothing that just looks too worn in. So why not get a bottle of rit dye and fully re-dye some of your clothes? It’s an easy process and it’s a win, win situation. If you dye a piece of your clothes, there is a high chance that you will still love it the same if not more. If it doesn’t come out how you imagined then you just found yourself something to sleep in or wear around the house on a lazy day. Bottles of rit dye are very inexpensive so it’s a low cost for a winning solution.
Sounds very early 2000’s, I know. However, there is never a bad time to add some jewels to your clothes. That is a universally known fact. So, creating either a cute design out of them or adding some here and there will elevate your clothes. What’s cool about bedazzling your clothes is if you did grow up during the Juicy tracksuits and Miss Me Jeans phases then this is a nostalgic trip for you. If you didn’t, you get to DIY yourself pieces of clothing that everyone knows and loves. Some OG Paris Hilton and Legally Blonde vibes. But it’s just so great. Some great suggested pieces to bedazzle is old denim jeans and jackets. For some reason, denim just looks good when it has some gems going down the legs or on the back of a denim jacket. Another cool way to revamp something is if you have the patience, making some sort of design in smaller gems. This could be like a word, a symbol, etc.
Sometimes all you need to do is change the color of the stitching or sew something on your back pocket. It’s so simple and for some people will take only a few minutes. It’s an inexpensive way to take a piece of clothing and make it entirely yours. You can truly sew anything on any of your clothes so the options for this personalization are endless.
