Odds are that, if you’re a college student, you’re in need of some money. Dorm room gigs are great offer great and convenient ways to earn some quick cash. While many on-campus jobs require you to actually go out and work somewhere that may sometimes be a bit of a drive away, working from the comfort of your dorm room is so much easier. You can skip the long drive (and constant need for gas), and instead simply roll out of your bed and get to work. Which jobs are available, though? What can you do that’ll make you as much money as a regular college job? Well, read below and find out!

Writer/Blogger

Have you ever wanted to write a blog before, but figured there was no money in it? Well, think again! This is one of the easiest dorm room gigs you can do. You don’t have to even get out of bed to do it. Just find a nice and relaxing spot where you can be both comfortable and productive and start writing! The hardest part of this job is simply starting to write. Once you get going, you’ll find that the ideas start coming more and more quickly and, pretty soon, you’ll be done with your first blog post. A benefit to doing a writing job like this is that it will look great on a resume if you find you want to pursue this kind of work after college!

ESL Teacher

It’s crazy how one of the most common dorm room gigs, being an ESL teacher, is not widely known about. If you choose to do this job, you’ll be teaching English as a second language to kids from all over the world! In many other countries, learning how to speak English is a highly prized skill and, luckily, you are already able to speak it fluently! Due to your mastery over the language, you are the perfect candidate for this job, which will always be in demand. The only major downside to this job is that you’ll be working on the schedule of your students, meaning that you may sometimes be required to wake up earlier than you want.

Customer Support

This is one of the dorm room gigs that will always be in high demand, since customers, when they have a question, will almost always want to speak to an actual person (you) rather than a computer. You’ll be tasked with learning the ins and outs of your company’s product and, armed with this knowledge, help calling customers work through their problems. The most important thing to remember with this job is to always be polite and to never lose your temper, even if the customer does (which can occur sometimes). If you do everything really well, you’ll find that the job is pretty easy and pays well.

Graphic Designer

Some dorm room gigs do not require any skills. You can just apply and are most likely to get the job. With other gigs, however, you’ll need some relevant experience to convince employers to hire you. A job as a graphic designer is one of the latter types. When performing this job, you’ll be tasked with creating everything from specially designed social media ads to 3D animated graphics. This job is perfect for someone who has a little bit of design experience, but a lot of love for you assigned tasks. With some graphic design positions, there may be opportunities for a higher position within the company after your time in college comes to an end.

Lots of business-people constantly have their hands full with so many different projects and, after a while, they realize that they need an assistant. That’s where you come in. Some dorm room gigs like this will keep you busier than others simply because of the importance and scope of what you may be doing. Sometimes, you’ll act as a secretary and make appointments for your employer. Other times, you may be working closely with them on a very important, top-secret project that, if it succeeds, will not only benefit your boss, but you as well. The most important quality in an online assistant is organization. If you believe you’re an organized person, then this job may be exactly what you need!

Social Media Employee

In this day and age, social media, and those who run it, are becoming increasingly important for businesses, making this job a great dorm room gig to try! For this position, you’ll be in charge of handling your company’s social media sites, which is a very important job. While you write your posts, remember that you’re not just writing for yourself anymore. Rather, you’re representing an entire company, a company that may give you a raise and make you a permanent member if you do your job well. One downside to this job is, because it is so important, the hiring process is usually long and slow.

Paid Intern

Everyone is familiar with internships, especially college students who need some quick experience so they can stand out to potential employers. You’re probably looking for a paid internship right now! Well, there’s good news and bad news. The good news is that there are a lot of internship opportunities out there, while the bad news is that most of them (at least at the start) are unpaid. Oftentimes, having a paid internship is a reward for patience and hard work, but sometimes it is impossible to stick with an unpaid position for very long since you’re probably looking for a paid job.

This job is not really a job at all. All it is is taking lots of paid online surveys every day, but it pays real money, so who cares! Dorm room gigs often have students working at one particular thing but, when you take online surveys, you’ll be doing a ton of different things every day! This job also requires you to apply or have anything to do with the regular hiring process, so you won’t have to wait two or more weeks to know whether you got the job or not. You can skip the hassle and get down to making money as soon as possible! 

Search Engine Evaluator

What is a search engine evaluator, you ask? It’s simple! They work closely with small businesses to make sure that their pages and articles are one of the first things to show up when you google certain keywords. While dorm room gigs like these were not around a short time ago, they’re everywhere now, which is good news for you! If you need some quick money, consider emailing a bunch of small companies and ask them if they need someone to test their online presence. Who knows, they may say yes, and you’ll get a job. Simple as that!

eBay seller

Unlike a few new dorm room gigs, becoming a seller on eBay has been around for a long time. It’s also really easy to get started! All you need to do is find things in your room that you don’t use anymore. Are there textbooks from last semester that you still have lying around? Why not sell them on eBay for a million dollars? They’ll only be slightly overpriced, so it’s alright to make a profit by selling them for a bit more than what you paid! The obvious downside with this gig is that, once you run out of things to sell, you’re out of a job To avoid this, make sure to constantly buy things for yourself that you can sell later on!
