Campus Life

10 Gifs That Accurately Describe What It’s Like To Be A Student At The University Of New Hampshire

Being a freshman, it’s hard to completely understand college at this early stage. But I think I’ve gotten a hold on the campus wide feelings every college student seems to feel and understand. With college, comes an over abundance of similar feelings every college student seems to relate to that haunt us daily no matter what we do. Here is a list of 10 GIFs that accurately describe life as a student at the University of New Hampshire:

1. Every college student wishes sleep could outweigh studying.

But when it comes down to it, you barely have enough time to gather your own thoughts when you consider how much studying and homework you have to do at any given time in college. You know its gotten bad when you get asked what your favorite place to nap on campus is, and you say the library, or the MUB (really anywhere away from your own bed because you find it impossible to study in your room).

2. I’m 100% sure I’m not the only one that does this, but regardless of how many places there are to eat at UNH I constantly find myself ordering Dominos.

Ordering Dominos seems to be my “quick fix” to any problem (which is actually really bad now that I’m admitting it to myself). I can’t count on two hands the amount of times I see Dominos pull up behind Stoke in a day. That gives me comfort because I know there are others suffering the same pizza addiction I am and aren’t afraid to own up to it.

3. Quite possibly, the most accurate description of my freshman year thus far at UNH.

I, and I’m sure many other students around campus, came to school this year with a pretty hefty savings account because of the endless hours they worked over the summer. But why is it that I’m only half way through this year and I’m almost scraping the bottom of my savings account? Well, money in college is like a mystical creature that only appears in your dreams. It always seems like you have enough, but then you realize how much you spent on your school books, and dinner when you don’t feel like going to the dining halls, etc., and then you have no more money to spend on necessities like candy.

4. I can happily say that I have had many classes get cancelled during my first semester of college.

Waking up in the morning before 10 am is hard for any college student whether they want to admit it or not. But when you wake up and check your email and see that your 8 am across campus in Horton was cancelled which means you don’t have a class until 12, a happy dance is totally allowed. Of course after your happy dance you jump right back in bed where you stay until you have to leave for you next class (No one is judging).

5. One word: Coffee.

In college, whether you are a morning person or not, coffee is a campus wide necessity. Thankfully UNH has an overabundance of places to get coffee. Everything from Starbucks in Zeke’s in the library, to the coffee trailers like the ones outside of Horton and Spaulding. If you are stressing out, or you are tired and need a pick-me-up, you know you can find coffee whenever you need it.

6. I totally underestimated the amount of time I would spend on my laptop in a day in college.

It feels like I spend more time on my laptop in a day than I do breathing. Every college often ends up looking like this GIF by the end of a busy day, which is totally understandable given the work load of a typical college student. As I sit in the library or the MUB, I see so many other students wearing this same facial expression as they try to spit words onto paper or attempt to finish that homework assignment before the deadline.

7. When it’s all said and done, and all your final assignments and projects are turned in, you tend to feel like this.

Walking through Durham as finals came to a close, I could sense the shift in peoples moods in a positive direction. The air seemed less hazy and suffocating, and turned bright and enticing. Weights felt like they were lifted from the library as students started to travel back home and relax from the chaos for a while.

8. Sometimes you just need a little motivation.

Every college student can agree that they take at least one test a week that makes them freak out. Sometimes, it’s helpful to have motivation to help guide you through the chaotic times you suffer more often than not. Even when the coffee is consumed, the pizza is gone, and the nap was two hours too short, you still have yourself to support you through any college obstacle that seems to large to sustain.

9. It seems to be the answer to everything regardless of how dramatic the situation.

“I’ll be alright.” But college students know that “I’ll be alright,” or “I’m fine” are simply ways to get people to stop asking you whats wrong when you just don’t feel like talking. This seems to happen a lot, which I’m sure many others can agree. “I’ll be alright” is a universal saying in college that everyone understands and relates to.

10. Although it seems really adult-like to get into college and start a new life, many college students find themselves at a fork in the road deciding between 100% obvious success, and “I have no idea what I’m doing.”

It’s very well understood that not everyone knows what they are doing 100% when they get to college. College is something that takes time to figure out and discover, which is very helpful knowing that your peers who walk the same campus as you are feeling the same way so that you never feel left out.
