Get the Look: Emma Chamberlain

Emma Chamberlain has taken the internet by storm. The new It Girl is at every corner you turn. The 19-year-old is already a well-rounded businesswoman with millions of followers on Instagram and YouTube but is mostly known for her fashion sense. Emma Chamberlain started as your average teenager who wore high waisted jeans and crop tops but evolved from her VSCO girl style to a total fashion icon. You can steal her style in affordable ways that won’t break the bank. Because her looks are so diverse and built with basic pieces you’ll be looking funky and youthful in no time.

1. Little Shirt, Big Pants

TikTok made us do it. At this point what does TikTok not make us do? Emma Has a signature look and that my friend is the little shirt, big pants trend. She may not have created the concept, but she made it stick. Scroll through her feed and I bet you can find at least 5 outfits that fit this trend. Her laid-back style with a tinge of retro 90’s vibe is the perfect way to still have a cute outfit while being comfortable.

2. Grandpa Chic

When looking through Pinterest to find outfit inspo, you see a new trend appearing in a handful of her outfits. Emma loves a grandpa chic moment. Chunky sweater vest, argyle cardigans with turtlenecks, and tennis skirts have taken over my feed. If you’re looking to recreate some of Emma Chamberlain’s outfits on a budget, this is a great one to start with because you can easily find similar pieces secondhand. Thrift stores and consignment shops are a great place to start or you can look at eBay, Poshmark, Depop, or ThreadUp for more specific pieces.

3. Basics Basics Basics

Even though it has been discussed before, sometimes it needs to be reiterated. When trying to recreate outfits, basics are always your friend. This is especially important when you are getting your inspo from street style photos of your favorite influencers or celebs. Remember that there are a lot of options for basics. Staple colors and styles might be used for different looks. Emma wears a lot of cropped tank tops. Having basic cropped tees and tanks will make recreating her looks easier.

4. POPS.OF.COLOR

Just because most or her outfit is simple and accessible to most doesn’t mean that it’s boring. Emma likes to add a little bit of color to all of her outfits. You can find pops of vibrant orange, pastel blues, or neon hues in most of her outfits. She sprinkles little bits of fun and color in her outfits. Try implementing more color into your looks through accessories or patterns.

5. Annnnnnd BAM

Basics are the basis of Emma’s outfits; however, she loves to add interest and fun with cool unique pieces. When putting together your outfits, pull out those crazy patterned pants you’ve never worn, or do a little DIY on that old dress you have. If you find you don’t have anything that adds variation to your outfit, swing by your local Goodwill. You might get lucky with a funky pair of trousers or a cool vintage jacket. These items that you’re adding don’t have to be outrageous but add just enough interest that you challenged when styling it.

6. Chunky Shoe Central

There are very few photos that you will find of Emma where she isn’t wearing some sort of chunky shoe. If you are going for a more casual look, pair it with a chunky dad sneaker. Going for something a little edgier? Throw on your Doc Martens or favorite chunky boots. Even when dressed more feminine, her shoes are still more chunky whether it is a heel or sneaker. This also adds some sort of dimension to the look.

If you’re having trouble putting together your very own Emma Chamberlin-esque outfits, consider trying out two-piece sets. This is an easy way to look more put together but, in a way, where you didn’t have to do so much mental work to match things together. Emma wears a lot of matching sets with funky prints and colors to bring interest and something different. Don’t be afraid of looking too busy. Sometimes it’s good to stand out!

8. Accessorize

The little details matter. Accessories add those little extra tweaks that pull the outfit together or give the look an eye-catching element. Emma likes to add micro sunnies, cool hats, or headbands. When adding the finishing touches to your outfits look past the obvious accessories like stacked rings and dainty chockers. What can you add to this outfit that can add that ‘I’m cool but quirky’ vibe? FYI these are yoga pants… not flared leggings.

9. Keep it Simple

Emma Likes for the outfits to do most of the talking. When it comes to her makeup and hair, she keeps it clean and quick with no muss or fuss. The products are minimal but they’re the right ones. Emma has done a handful of videos on various YouTube channels where she details her simplistic makeup routine. Tinted moisturizer, a quick bushy brow, bronzer to warm up the face and define the eye, and mascara. There you have it! Add a little swipe of highlighter and you’ll be ready to go! If you’re looking for that less is more look without spending $50 on concealer then check out brands like Glossier and Rare Beauty.

But you can’t forget the hair! She also keeps very simple and natural. Emma always keeps it fairly natural and laid back with her natural texture. Her signature style was a messy pony with a scrunchie, but as her style has progressed you see her mostly with her hair down and parted in the center.

Emma Chamberlain has a very unique and youthful style. You have to be ready to turn heads when recreating her looks. Don’t forget to shop your closet and secondhand before you buy a piece that you have been eyeing for a while. You can save some serious coin if you get a little creative and work with what you have.
