Life isn’t always full of sunshine and rainbows. Things can get hard when you least expect them to, leaving you wondering how you’ll ever see the light at the end of the tunnel. Whether you have some work-related stress, troubles at school, or issues with family or friends, everyone needs a break every once in a while. So, if you’re looking to a temporary fun escape from the troubles in your life, check out this list of fun things to do when you just need to get things off your mind!
First on our list of fun things to do when you need an escape is the classic activity of exploration! You could go explore a new part of your town or city, explore an old abandoned building that’s said to be haunted, or just explore a new restaurant or cafe that you’ve never been to before. This is a great way to leave things in the past and just immerse yourself in a whole new environment. Don’t forget to take a few friends with you, too!
There’s nothing more therapeutic than petting a bunch of adorable animals! This next activity is bound to get your mind off of things because of all of the cuteness. From my experiences, a lot of animal shelters love having volunteers because it means more people to play with their cats and walk their dogs! By taking care of something else, you won’t have the time to worry about your problems. Plus, you might end up going home with a new furry friend!
An easy way to get your mind off your troubles is to completely immerse yourself into something new! Learning a new skill will allow your mind to focus on something different, plus you’ll have tons of fun getting involved with something new! You could learn to knit, learn photography, or learn how to cook. Even if the new skill is something small like learning how to do a trendy dance, it’ll be just the break you need from your busy life. The options for this activity are practically endless!
There’s no boost of self-confidence like taking a photo of yourself that you actually like. So, why not have a photoshoot? You could grab some friends and a camera, or just set the self-timer on your iPhone and do a solo shoot. Go out and seek the beauty of nature or use the camera to see the beauty within yourself. This is a great way to take your mind off of the stressors in your life, so I highly recommend doing this!
Maybe you’re already handy in the kitchen or maybe you don’t know the first thing about cooking. Either way, cooking something new is the perfect way to get creative but also allows you to escape your life for a bit. You could bake an apple pie, make lasagna, or decorate a beautiful cake. Your mind will get the chance to focus on something else and you can relax for a little. This is also a super fun activity to do with friends, so the more the merrier!
If you happen to be an avid reader like me, you know there’s nothing more calming than rereading your favorite book. Books truly allow you to lose yourself in a whole new world that you can’t really get out of any other form of media. Sure, you could start fresh with a new book, but there’s something about knowing the plot and the characters already that makes rereading your favorite book so much more comforting. If you’re not huge on reading, rewatch your favorite movie or tv show and just feel all the good feels!
Whether you’re ten years old or twenty-five years old, there isn’t much that can’t be fixed by a dance party. Okay, so that might be an exaggeration, but you sure can have a lot of fun when you turn on your favorite dance music and just let loose. Grab some friends or just blare your music alone. Either way, you’ll get to release all the built-up tension you’ve been holding on to, plus you’ll get some energy out!
Similar to having a dance party, any activity that involves music is always a good time. Doing some karaoke is your time to shine and really just have a blast either with some friends or solo. You can buy a karaoke mic online for pretty cheap, which will make singing along to your favorite songs even more fun! There’s no better escape from life than belting out your emotions into a microphone!
Give yourself a new start and an escape from your problems by giving yourself a total transformation! This could mean trying out a new makeup look, chopping off your hair, or just anything that will give you that fresh feeling. Now, I wouldn’t recommend doing anything rash when you’re upset, so make sure you fully think through any major decisions before you make them! Forget about your problems and just become someone else for a little bit.
If you’re really looking for that fresh start and want to escape from your old life, redecorating can help you do that. It may seem like a simple thing to do, but if you spend all day in a room and it suddenly becomes a totally different looking space, it’s a really great feeling. Hang up some new lights, add some new wall art, or if you’re looking to really change things up, paint your walls a different color! Just create a new space that will make you feel at home again.
