10 Fun Things To Do Before Leaving University

University is the time of your life. If you haven’t already completed this college bucket list, you should. Here are the 10 most fun things to do before leaving university.

1. Explore the outskirts of your school:

There could be days when you are free and have nothing to do. Why don’t you grab a snack somewhere with your friends and fool around. Leave the campus and have some outside experience. You could even take pictures of these places and keep them. When you look at them in future, you’ll just remember ‘that day I and my homies fooled around’. This is crucial before leaving university.

2. Take a photo with something or someone popular in your school and tag your school’s social media accounts:

Be it Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, it’s really nice to take pictures of yourself with either a statue in your school (in the case of LASU, the statues of the Eyo masquerade and the school logo are great examples) or with a popular person in your school. It could be the Students Union President or the Public Relations Officer or even the Vice Chancellor. Trust me, as soon as you upload the photo, it will go viral on each of the social accounts your school operates.

3. Take advantage of the discounts you can receive from your student ID card:

You know you can’t be a student forever; neither will that ID in your wallet be valid forever, so what are you waiting for? ID cards expire and they have so many purposes. First, for all the registration you need within and outside the campus. Second, for all the discounts and benefits of being a ‘student’. Grab your ID card- open a student account at a new bank—God knows, you might just need that new bank account for something important. You could also try out another bank. The ultimate discount most students in Nigeria use their student ID card for is payment at the cinemas. At Silverbird cinemas, Ozone, Film house, among others, students pay ₦500 less than the normal adult price. For instance, if the price for a movie ticket is ₦1,500, students will pay only ₦1,000. On the days that the movie ticket is ₦1,000, the students will pay only ₦500. Isn’t that fair enough for youths who aren’t in the working class? Just ensure YOU HAVE YOUR STUDENT ID CARD WITH YOU.  So freshmen, grab your ID card NOW!

4. Audit a course, not for registration, but because you’re interested in it:

No, it’s not a waste of time. It’s actually a cool thing to do. This takes you away from your weekly routine. It helps you expand your horizon and become open to new ideas. Of course, only if you’re interested in the subject matter of that course. If you’re a Law student for instance and have interest in some aspects of business, you can sojourn to the Faculty of Management Sciences and audit a course in the Department of Business Administration. Note: Well, if you have the guts, attend a class where no one knows you, but it will be more fun if it’s a class where almost everyone knows you, especially for the fact that you’re ‘an outsider’, so they can tease you a little. Teases like this are fun, most times.

5. Explore the various cafeterias and meals in your school:

There are so many food items in the cafeterias. If you have never tried eating Amala or Semo or Pounded Yam, Amala Extra is a good joint to start with; although, there are other cafeterias that have swallows. If you haven’t tried toast and hot chocolate or tea in the morning before your lectures, please try it and indulge your friends too. It is a good way to start the day- doing something different. Also, you and your friends could dedicate a day to exploring the cafeterias in another faculty. This would be fun because you get to taste the delicacy of different groups of people. It’ll be awesome!

6. Attend shows:

This is the most exciting part of being a socialite in the University. Even if you’re a nerd, you could also enjoy shows that take place on campus. These shows could be pageants, musical performances, dance performances, association weeks, soccer matches and so many others. You have to attend these shows as soon as you get the opportunity to. You need to feel alive man! All work and no play..blah blah.. you know the rest. It’s important you take a break from studying.

7. Get creative and organise a little game between you and anyone interested:

Use your initiative and start up something fun for people around you to enjoy. I know staying behind in school doing nothing sucks, especially when you have nothing to do. This could actually be a chance for you to make it fun for yourself and others. The illustration I’m willing to give is going to sound a bit funny, ridiculous or embarrassing- whatever you may call it. The game I tried with my friends is called Time Factor- I can’t really remember who brought it up but it was awesome. Remember how we played it in Secondary School? Using a paper and filling the columns- Name, Animal, Place, Food and Thing in an alphabetical order. It sounds ridiculous, but it was fun. Trust me; it was fun and educating too. We even got to learn new words while referring to the Dictionary. For instance, I got to know that ……….never mind! Bringing old things up really rocks your day and makes it exciting. You could as well be creative and create your own game. P.S: It must not be boring. Before leaving university, you need to check this off your list.

8. Get your article published in your school’s publication:

Yes. You should really do this. You might not like writing, but you love either fashion, sports, technology, beauty, health, lifestyle or entertainment. Why don’t you write something on your area of interest and send your draft for publication in your school magazine? It could even be a tip that you need people to try, probably health or beauty tips which you tried and worked for you. It’s a good thing to render your testimony by sharing these tips through your school magazine. I promise, the day my dandruff finally wears off, I’ll share my solutions with you.

9. Speak to your crush, FINALLY:

Haven’t you waited for too long? Speak to that person you admire the most in school. Trust me, they won’t bite. If the person is at all rude, that would make it more fun– you begin to despise your crush; better still, you know you got some attention, if you know what I mean.

10. Have a reunion in your final year and share your school moments with your peers:

Moments fade, memories last forever. It is even better when you have something to show for it—videos, pictures and write-ups. The moments you spent with your peers in school can never be forgotten; although you might not remember absolutely everything. So before you can even think of laughing, record that moment and in your final year, plan a reunion with your peers, showing them everything that you all have been through together. Tears will drop from the eyes of some people- I know that can happen to me though L. If you’re already in your final year, no worries. It’s not too late to start a personal vlog of you and your peers.

So…ensure you don’t miss out a thing from this list. I also hope you don’t just read, laugh and forget. DO IT before leaving university.
