10 Fun Social Distancing Activities

As summer approaches, it can seem especially hard to adhere to social distancing guidelines, but there are still some fun social distancing activities you can do with your friends. 

1. Netflix Party

A Netflix party is a great way to watch movies or shows with your friends, even if you are across the country from each other. This browser extension allows you to watch the same movie or tv show as your friends and even has a chatroom function. This is an especially great social distancing activity to do if you happen to be quarantined somewhere far away from your friends.

2. Zoom Happy Hour

Another great option if you want to get a group together that is scattered in various places. Zoom happy hours have become very popular, and are a great fun way to catch up with your friends and have a fun drink. This is a great way to keep some normalcy or your typical routine with your friends. 

3. Make a Group Blog

This is another great way to stay in touch with your friends, you could all start a food blog or Instagram, or a fitness account. Whatever you all like to do together, you can document it and stay connected through a blog. This is also a great way to continue to do things you enjoy, like cooking, art, or working out, and documenting it with your friends can be really fun. This is also a really positive way to use social media, especially when it can be stressful in unprecedented times to use social media and constantly see unnerving news.

4. Social distancing dinner party

Perfect for a warm evening, you can gather in a public park, or a friend’s yard, and sit 6 feet apart with your separate dinners. This is a great way to see people in person, while still keeping your distance and not having to worry about anything. If you are tired of being stuck inside and want to enjoy the nice weather, this is a great activity. Additionally, you don’t have to worry about people disagreeing on where to eat, because everyone can bring their own home-cooked meal, or takeout from their favorite restaurant.

5. Bike Rides

This is a great way to be outside and get some exercise and is an easy social distancing activity. You can ride to a certain destination, visit your friends throughout the city, or just go for a short scenic ride to get out of the house. With gyms closed, it can be difficult to get exercise but this is a great way to be active and enjoy yourself.

6. Face time and online Workout classes

If you miss your weekly soul cycle, barre classes, or kickboxing, you can take online fitness classes from your favorite places. These classes are a great way to stay motivated and keep part of your routine, and you can even FaceTime your friends during them if you want to do them together. This gives you the same great workout, but all from home. This is a really fun way to get your workout in and socialize with your friends. It can also help keep some normalcy and routine to your life, even in unpredictable times.

7. Explore your city

With many places closed down and streets empty, going for a walk in your city is a great way to explore and find new places in surprisingly empty areas. If you want to be able to get outside, this is a great way to go for a walk and discover new places in your area. Exploring your area when it is empty and peaceful can be a great way to see your city in a new light, and find new scenery and places you had never been before.

Going for a drive is another great social distancing activity because you are isolated from other people but you can be outside and have some change of scenery form your home. Going for a drive can be super relaxing, and you can listen to your favorite music, a podcast, or an audiobook to pass the time. You can drive through your city or along a scenic route. This is a great time to go for a drive because you are unlikely to run into traffic, and you can get out of your house without worrying about interacting with anyone in a potentially harmful way.

A book club is a great way to keep in touch with your friends and add an activity to your routine that you may not normally have time for. Sometimes following social distancing can be really frustrating and feel unproductive, but learning something new is a great way to keep yourself occupied and not get bored of watching the same shows or scrolling through social media. You can learn to paint, sew, learn a new language, or whatever you have always wanted to do but never had the time. You can also have your friends learn the skill with you, and share your progress with each other as a way to motivate yourself.
