Denton is filled with a great variety of places that you can explore in the company of your friends. There are so many different things to do in a town that seems like it may not have much to offer. Denton is so much more than just a regular college town, providing many experiences for you to go out and explore and get outside of your comfort zone. These places are wonderful to create memories that will last you and your friends a lifetime, all while also not breaking the bank. Ranging from things for nature lovers all the way to the artsy folk, Denton is home to it all!
For all my nature lovers out there…
A great trail that is easy to follow if you and the gals want to hop on your bikes and enjoy some local nature. The trail itself is paved, making it fairly easy to get through. Gather up a bunch of your friends, bring some water, and maybe even a snack so that you guys can stop somewhere along the way to have a small picnic and enjoy the scenery. It also is pet-friendly as long as your pets are kept on their leashes. It’s also a great place to have an impromptu photography session. Take pictures in the gorgeous scenery or of it and enjoy the sunsets in the process.
Offering more than 2,900 acres of land to explore, Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center has numerous trails to explore as well as many learning opportunities to help yourself get in touch with nature. An interesting event you and your friends can attend is the Heritage Center’s Mushroom workshop. Learn how to grow and take care of your fungi in your own home. The center offers all sorts of workshops ranging from beekeeping to raising backyard chickens.
Even your most nonathletic friend can have a good time adventuring here, as the trails are easy to get through. Another fun bonding idea could be fishing. Bring along some bait and a fishing pole and get ready to sit for hours. It is a nice and quiet activity, great for having long peaceful talks.
For when you guys want to experience some creativity…
Live shows are a wonderful excuse to get out of the house and try new things with your friends. Indie shows such as Steel Magnolias, A Tuna Christmas, or Beaujolais and More, expose you to a more underground version of theater that is unlike the mainstream shows everyone usually sees. And, it is inexpensive entertainment, compared to other known theaters that will charge an arm and a leg for one show. This is also a great opportunity for those who have never experienced any form of theater before.
Nothing says true friendship like supporting the local arts!
There are times where you can watch others express their creativity but, there comes a time when you need to do it yourself. A Creative Art Studio offers many different art classes ranging from drawing, stained glass, watercolor, and even yoga. The studio is also a working art gallery that you and friends can go to in order to appreciate art made by others just like you guys. This is a judgment-free zone. You and your friends can go here just to hang out and create some memories along with some really dope art. Art is very relaxing whereas college often is not. If you feel like you guys need a refreshing de-stressor, go to A Creative Art Studio and get all those feelings out.
For when you guys just want to spend time together…
With Netflix and Hulu, going out to see a movie can feel a bit like a waste of money but, getting out of your apartment or your dorm is something that eventually has to be done. Going to the movies may remind you of all the times you went before as a kid and reminiscing could bring up some good memories that you can share with the new friends you have made on campus. It is a simple way to spend time with one another and see some new movies. Not everything that is done together has to be big or glamorous, sometimes something as simple as seeing a movie together can be the best way to bond.
Shop ’til you drop, am I right ladies? All jokes aside, retail therapy really does work. As much as your wallet may hate you for it after, you know you will not be leaving empty-handed. Bringing your friends along to help you decide what looks best on you and what you should or should not get is always a great idea because if you can count anyone, to be honest, it’s them. Spending time with friends and buying some new things is guaranteed to put you in a good mood or an even better one than you were in before. Checking out some new books at Barnes and Noble that you and all your friends can read and enjoy together. Also, who doesn’t love to snack on a chocolate chip Great American Cookie while you are sniffing all the candles at Bath and Body Works?
Bringing out the competitive side in your friends could go one of two ways: someone’s feelings are going to get hurt or the entire thing is going to end up being a joke. Bowling with friends is a really great way to bond over a cheap and fun activity. University Lane has multiple deals going on throughout the week such as College Night which on Thursday from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m. you can bowl as much as you want and the shoes are included. They also have other deals on weekdays and weekends that include late-night Bowl All You Want and when you become ravenous after all that bowling, order yourself some pizza from their very own snack bar.
