Fun Games To Play On Zoom With Your Long Distance Friends

If you could lose weight running your mouth I would be a toothpick in a toupee, but let’s be honest chatting with your friends virtually is starting to get a little old, even when there is heavy drinking involved. Especially since for months now that has been our only option to communicate with other people- quick sidebar, why I think all my friends are getting pregnant because they’ve been locked up with their partner all of quarantine with nothing else to do. Anyway this article is not about my conspiracy theories, it’s about how to spice up your friendship-love life in our new pandemic realness world. So until the day comes when we can finally be in the same room as our grandparents without killing them, here are a few fun games to play on Zoom with your long distance friends.

1. Never Have I Ever

Never have I ever is a tried and true game that I’m sure you have played at least once in your lifetime. Most of us remember being in high school, sitting in a circle in our friend’s basement, drinking alcohol we stole from our parents, and playing never have I ever. Excuse me, Northerners were in the basement, while Southerners the closet- at least that is where me and my ratchet Florida friends did our secret drinking. Personally I find it depressing that the older I get the closer I get to being the last place loser whenever I play this game. Translation: I need to get my shit together. For those who don’t know the game never have I ever, each player puts up five fingers or ten if you like your rounds to be a wee bit longer, the players then take turns going around the circle saying things they’ve never done before. For example “I have never been out of the country,” or if you’re playing the the adult version- you can say things like “I have never done anal because I’m saving my anal virginity for marriage.” After a player says something they have never done, the other players put down a finger if they have done it, but if no one puts down a finger the player who just spoke does. You repeat this process until there is only one player left with their fingers up, and if that is you congratulations, you’re the Charlotte of your friend group! Basically it’s best to land somewhere in the middle because being the winner makes you a prude, but being first out makes you a hot mess. One of the best parts about never have I ever is it’s a simple game that can easily be played over Zoom.

2. Trivia

Thank god Trivia is in the category of games to play on Zoom. Trivia is my jam, and my #1 favorite bar activity, Bingo is a close second, but trivia is the clear winner. I love bar trivia so much because I’m a competitive monster, who literally kicked over a bar stool once because my teammate wrote down a wrong answer. She was never on my team again- I’m scary. Another reason I like trivia so much is because I find mundane facts interesting, and pride myself on my ability to recall random knowledge. If you too like trivia, or just like having a good time with your friends, well you’re in luck because you can still get your trivia fix over Zoom. Trivia is another game that easily translates to the Zoom platform, all you need is a host, some questions, and friends.

3. Bingo

Bingo is one of the other games to play on Zoom. Bingo, a favorite pastime of the elderly, and one of the most fun as well as easiest games to play at the bar. Even if you’re close to a black out, if you still have the ability to listen, and hold a Bingo marker in your hand, you’re good. Bingo is a game of chance. If you haven’t played Bingo before I’m sorry you were raised in a cult, but I’m glad you got out, and can now enjoy fun games with your friends over Zoom. The rules of Bingo are simple. Step 1, you need a game host, next the players each get a Bingo card. After the cards are passed out the host will draw a number at random. If the player has that number on their card they will mark it with a Bingo marker. Each card has numbers printed in different arrangements, and the players will match numbers on their card until a player makes a row of numbers. When this happens said player screams at the top of their lungs BINGO! Which alert each participant, and the host that they’ve made the winning arrangement so every other player can kiss their ass. The host then verifies the card to make sure it is indeed a winning card, and if it, the player wins whatever prize or jackpot has been pre-decided for the winner. But don’t be bummed if you lose because after each round the cards are cleared, and a new round starts. Bingo is a good game to play on Zoom because all you have to do is make sure one of your friends will host, while the other players, I assume are also your friends, get Bingo cards which you can easily do virtually thanks to an online Bingo card generator.

4. Two Truths And A Lie

Another v simple game out of games to play on Zoom with your friends is two truths and a lie. I love this game because although the premise is simple, I always think it’s fun to see my friends flex their creative chops, and I enjoy learning new things about them. IDK what my friends get out of me playing though since I’m a horrendous liar (I can only lie to my boyfriends, it’s a gift,) as well as an open book to a fault. Maybe they like seeing me finally lose at something- whatever. If you haven’t figured it out already, how to play two truths and a lie is beyond easy, I mean the name says it all. Basically each player takes turns saying two truths, and a lie about themselves. Except the other players don’t know which two facts are the truths, and which one is the lie. So the other players have to try to guess which fact is which. This is another obvious game you can play over Zoom. All you need is some friends, and your mouth.

5. Charades

Charades is one of my favorite party games, and now one of my favorite games to play on Zoom. All you have to do is get a group of people together then split into teams. Next each team takes turns having one of their players act out a scene with no spoken words, while the rest of their team tries to guess what their team member is acting out. So fun! And super easy, especially since you can play over Zoom, no problem- thanks to an online charade scene generator. Just make sure your team is not too drunk that they can’t count. I was going to kill my friend Alex once. He was so wasted that when it was our team’s turn to go, he acted out a movie, and said it was three words. No surprise our team didn’t guess it before time ran out because the film was I Know What You Did Last Summer. Alex was like how did you not guess that?! And I was like that is 7 words through gritted teeth.

There you have it homo sapiens- five games to play on Zoom with your friends, but there are a plethora of other games to play on Zoom that are typically played in IRL that you can also play over Zoom. Like Pictionary for example, or even new games like Psych which you can play by downloading a free app. Another great thing is that you can play all of these games while drinking, if you so wish to do so. Just remember to be creative, have fun, and that you can still make human connections with your friends and family even if their far away. So grab your claws minus the ruby grapefruit flavor, and enjoy.
