5 Fun Fall Activities To Do Near Pace University

Autumn has thankfully arrived, and those of us who love wearing flannel and wearing boots couldn’t be happier. What is a better way to celebrate this new season than enjoying fall activities? Below are listed five places in Westchester that are optimal to visit this fall, with activities from beautiful sightseeing spots to apple-picking.

1. Wilkens Fruit & Fir Farm

Located in Yorktown Heights, Wilkens Fruit & Fir Farm has several fall activities at its disposal. They offer apple-picking, pumpkin-picking, and even peach-picking. Their farm markets (which have a variety of over 40 types of apples!) are great for shopping for delicious fall goods, including everything from apple pie to cold or hot apple cider. Their country market sells local crafts and ornaments you won’t be able to find at the nearest department store or mall.

Their corn maze and winery are prime locations for one to get a true fall feel.  If you want to start getting ready for Christmas, they also have acres for Choose-N-Cut Christmas Trees. Don’t forget to walk inside their little bakery as well. You can smell the fresh aromas of apple-cider donuts, freshly baked pies, brownies, strudel-sticks, and fudge! (All of these can also be pre-ordered @ wilkensfruitfarm@gmail.com.) They will be celebrating heir 103rd Harvest this 2019. They are open every day at 10 AM and close every day at 4:30 PM.

2. The Great Jack-O-Lantern Blaze

If you’re someone who enjoys fall (and fall activities), chances are you have the capacity to admire some intricately carved jack-o-lanterns in the spirit of the Halloween season. If so, the Great Jack-O-Lantern Blaze is perfect for you. Located in Croton-on-Hudson, and offering free and on-site parking, it is one of the most notable and largest tri-state area events to happen every autumn. They re-create the area for a historical atmosphere, transporting you back to the 18th century as you walk around. They set up a display of over 7,000 different jack-o-lanterns you can admire for their detail, as they were created by artisans that all have a unique eye.

Their Museum of Pumpkin Art has displays of classic art for those who want to appreciate culture and history, never a poor idea. With other various fall activities such as the Pumpkin Planetarium (exactly what it sounds like) and the Pumpkin Windmill, you can’t miss out on the Great Jack-O-Lantern Blaze if you’re a lover of all things autumn (which you probably are, if you’re an awesome person.) All of their proceeds go to the Historic Hudson Valley, a non-profit educational organization, so your money would be going to a good cause.

3. Greenburgh Nature Center

Located in Scarsdale (very near to Pleasantville), the Greenburgh Nature Center is a nature preserve with plenty of animals to observe, such as owls, goats, and turtles. There is also a long trail, which is optimal if you want to enjoy long and luxurious walks and enjoy nature. They are mostly known for hosting private events such as children’s birthday parties, and the staff is accommodating and friendly to all who decide to visit.

For the fall season, this nature preserve has gone all out with events: the Apple Cidering on October 14th (when you can help make your own cider), the Creatures of the Night (where guests can witness nocturnal animals in action), the Festifall on October 27th which is a festival to celebrate Halloween weekend, the first time they’ll be having one in three years.

Even forgetting these specifically themed October events, the Greenburgh Nature Center is also a perfectly pleasant and lovely little place to visit, especially with your family and some small children in town. The staff is welcome and hospitable, and the animals are adorable. They are opened Monday to Thursday from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and Sunday and Saturday from 10 AM to 4:30 PM.

4. Coliseum White Plains Halloween Party

You know those classic Halloween parties you always see in movies (like Mean Girls), or when you’re scrolling through your Instagram feed on Halloween weekend? It’s when everyone around is wearing awesome Halloween costumes, whether it’s a sexy bunny, a superhero, or an evil witch. Dressing up in costumes for Halloween is very standard in autumn. And if you want to know where to find one and experience it, look no further!

White Plains (also very close to Pleasantville) will be having a Halloween party on the weekend before October 31st, on Saturday, October 27th. It will be taking place at the Coliseum, a large and sparkling dance club. The club has private parties, DJs in multiple rooms, and live acts. It’s an ideal place for someone who wants to party somewhere glamorous on the weekend, and you’ll find your body grooving to the beat in no time. Imagine how much fun it will be seeing everyone on the dance floor in Halloween costumes, including your own! Get to partying dressed however you’d like. This season is one you should enjoy in style, especially with some friends who may be wearing matching costumes.

5. Westchester Greenhouse & Farm

Located in Hartsdale (close, again, to Pleasantville), the Westchester Greenhouse & Farm is a family-owned farm that has operated in business since 1932. Reviews have consistently praised their excellent affordable produce and plants. When it comes to produce, they possess such likings such as apples, pumpkins, and cabbage. When it comes to plants, don’t be surprised to see beautiful and color-popping pansies and chrysanthemums. They are open every single day of the week, opening at 8 AM and closing 7 PM (except on Sundays, when they close at 6 PM.)

Westchester is a scenic and beautiful county that is wonderful for lovers of nature – and nature is never more present in fall. With these fall activities, you’ll be fully embracing the season! Let us know down below some of your favorite fall activities!
