10 Fruits & Veggies That Have To Be Planted In Your Garden This Summer

Looking for a new summer hobby?? Gardening might become your new favorite thing to do! I know you may not jump to your feet at the sound of gardening, but it is possible to make it fun. Even if you don’t have a ton of extra space it is possible to make it work and grow just a few things. To make it fun and exciting, try to gather a few of your favorite fruits and veggies and watch them grow! You will be stocked up on your food supply after planting a few seeds. There’s something about eating fruit that you grew yourself that makes it taste a little bit better. You may be wondering which fruits and veggies you should plant because there are so many options. Luckily I’m here to help! Here are 10 fruits and veggies you have to plant in your summer garden this year! 

1.  Cucumbers

Start your garden off by planting some cucumbers! I have planted these before in my garden and they grow so fast. These are perfect for planting during the summer since they make the perfect summer snack. You can also put them on salads for a refreshing meal. You’ll know they are ready when they are dark green and firm. They usually grow to a medium size and sometimes maybe a little small than regular which is normal. Cucumbers are a great vegetable to plant in your summer garden this year. It will be so much fun planting them and even more delicious to eat! 

2. Watermelons

Watermelons can be challenging to plant since they take a while to grow and develop. This goes for any type of men water its honeydew or cantaloupe. Watermelon is a tasty treat that you will want to plant in your garden and have an abundance of them. This is a refreshing snack for a hot summer day! These are super fun to watch grow and you’ll get an accomplished feeling when they are all done and you can finally cut one open! 

3. Zucchini

If you are looking for a tasty vegetable to plant in your garden this summer try out some zucchini! If you are new to gardening, this is an easy way to get going. Make sure your zucchini get a lot of sun in order for them to grow healthy. These are perfect to grow during the summer because there are so many ways you can prepare them for meals! Growing your own zucchini can be so rewarding and call for some great dinners! 

4. Peppers

For all your vegetable lovers out there, growing some in your garden can be the best way to save some money! Start by growing some papers in your garden to have an endless supply. Peppers not only are super tasty but add a pop of color to your garden! They can take up to 75 days to fully grow and some can be a smaller size while others are bigger. These are easy to plant but need to be taken care of carefully. Each one needs to be planted at least 18 inches apart from each other and stakes may be needed. You will need to water them constantly and deep into the roots. Having a garden takes a little bit of work but trust me it will be worth it when all of your fruits and veggies are fully frown and ready to eat! 

5. Tomatoes

You can never have enough tomatoes, am I right? Tomatoes are the perfect thing to plant in your summer garden. You can use tomatoes for so many dishes and having extra around is ideal for summer cooking! Since these grow best in a lot of sunlight, summer is the perfect time to plant these. For these, you’ll need fertile soil and space in between each seed. These will be a tasty delight to have around your house this year. 

6. Raspberries

If you are looking for a sweet treat, raspberries are a healthy way to snack during the day. Planting these in your garden is a great way to have a large supply of your own raspberries. Plant these during the spring for the best tasting berries all summer. These are fun to plant and will be perfect to add to a fruit salad! 

7. Onions

Looking for a way to spice up your garden this summer? Plant some onions for an endless supply of flavor. These are perfect for cooking and can be prepared in so many ways. They are easy to plant and only take a few weeks to see a full grown onion! You will need to make sure to water these thoroughly every day for the best results.

8. Honeydew

If you are looking for more then just a watermelon to plant in your garden this summer, add some honeydew for a sweet melon garden! Honeydew is so refreshing for a hot day and its sweet satisfying taste is even better. For the best results, you will need to dig small holes and add about 4 seeds. You will then need to cover each hole in a mound with the soil or manure. You will not regret growing these in your summer garden this year! 

9. Carrots

Carrots are one of the best vegetables to plant in your summer garden. You can make so many great dishes with carrots. These are great for salads, or with a dip at a cookout! These are a definite necessity to have in your summer garden this year. Loose soil is best for these to grown and thrive.  If this is your first time having a garden, these are the perfect first thing to grow!

10. Potatoes

If you are looking to have a full supply of healthy potatoes this summer, you should start planting them in the spring. Potatoes are a heavier vegetable that can be grown in cooler weather. Keep then in the shade so the potatoes don’t rot and get overexposed to sunlight. They are so easy to plant as well, all you have to do it throw some chopped up chunks of potato into the soil, then watch them grow! These are some of the easiest vegetables to plant and can come in so handy this summer for cooking.
