15 Things You Need To Do Your Freshman Year At USC

Freshman Year at the University of South Carolina is finally here and there is so much to do! Your freshman year lays down the path for how your college experience will be, so it is important to try out new things and step out of your comfort zone. Here are 15 things you NEED to do your freshman year at USC!

1. Join a club, any club, or 3

Your freshman year of college is not only about studying and getting millions of assignments handed to you, but it’s also about getting to know your school. The University of South Carolina has 400+ organizations and the pool keeps getting bigger every year. Even if you don’t find the right club or organization for you, there is always room to come up with a new one!

2. Master the art of doing laundry

Honestly, do it.

3. Attend the Gamecock football games!

Once football season starts, there’s no going back.

4. Introduce yourself to your professors

They’re the ones who will be willing to help you so don’t be so hesitant to say hi on the first day.

5. Explore the campus the day after move in day so that you’ll know where your classes will be

The University of South Carolina campus is walkable in 15 minutes if you can keep up. Sure it’s big, but make sure you know where to go!

6. BEWARE of the freshmen 15.

The food on campus is pretty stellar. With Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell, Horseshoe Deli, and Fresh Burger, the campus has some pretty great options to choose from. However, if you don’t watch what you eat, you will begin to see a change in your body.

7. Take a fitness class at Strom!

Strom is the ultimate campus fitness center! They have a track, pool, and even rock climbing!

8. Make new friends

You don’t want to sit in a college dorm alone, now do you? There’s plenty of opportunities to make new friends! Start with your roommate, leave your dorm room door open, say hi to random strangers.

9. Get to class, please.

Just do it, please. It’s self-explanatory. No GIF necessary.

10. Study for tests!

You might have been able to pass classes in high school without studying, however, college is different. You need to study in order to pass your tests, especially for midterms and finals!

11. Keep Calm and Pet a Puppy during finals week

The University of South Carolina offers down time for students who need a break from studying finals week, puppies included! GO PET AND PLAY WITH THE CUTE PUPPIES!

Homecoming week is one of the most exciting events of the school year! From the pep rally to the music festival, it’s a week that you wouldn’t want to miss out on. Students all over campus are showing their true Gamecock spirit!

15. SLAY YOUR FRESHMEN YEAR

Just enjoy your first year in college! Get good grades, make new friends, get a fresh new start. Just have a good year, and start off your first year at the University of South Carolina right!
