Free Things To Do Near The University Of Alabama When You’re Low On Cash

When you need a break from studying or just something to do besides binging Netflix, heading to the theater or the campus Starbucks are classics, but movies and coffee can get expensive quick. So here are 8 free things to do near UA when you’re low on cash. Grab some friends or go alone, either way you won’t have to spend a cent.

1. Walk A Dog At Metro Animal Shelter

You can’t always have a furry companion of your own in college, but sometimes you just need to cuddle a cute doggo. Head over to Happy Hour at Tuscaloosa Metro Animal where you can check out time with a dog for a few hours. It’s a win-win; the dogs need exercising and college students need de-stressing.

Take your new friend to play in the park or for a stroll at the Riverwalk. The shelter has Happy Hour Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 12-4PM, and all you need to participate is a valid driver’s license. The cuteness factor alone makes it one of the best free things to do near UA.

The arboretum is open every day from 8AM until sunset. Pack a picnic and spend a few hours enjoying Alabama’s natural beauty. If any of the flowers or trees pique your interest, the arboretum staff can tell as much as you want to know about them. The arboretum accepts donations, but admission is always free.
