10 Free Things To Do Around University Of Louisville
If you’re a broke college student like the majority of us, you know it can be tiring trying to figure out things to do when your bored and low on cash. If you’re a student at the University of Louisville and if you find yourself in this scenario, these are some ideas to for things to do without having to reach for your wallet! Below are 10 free things to do around University of Louisville, have fun!
1. Enjoy art on our very own campus.
The Speed Art Museum is next to our very own Belknap campus on Third Street. Present them with your student ID and enjoy ancient, classic, and modern art from around the world and the best part is, it’s FREE!
2. Do some thinking…
Lucky for us The University of Louisville houses another great piece of art. Since 1949 The Thinker has been outside of Grawemeyer Hall. Take a break from studying and go visit The Thinker to do some of your best thinking!
3. Thunder!
Thunder over Louisville is one of the biggest displays of fireworks in the country! Every year the fireworks kick off the start to the Kentucky Derby Festival and it’s all free!
4. Do you have mad chess skills?
If you love chess, go to the Mall St. Matthews with a friend. You won’t be disappointed by the huge chess board that you can enjoy at no cost!
5. Visit Colonel Sanders.
Take a walk around Cave Hill Cemetery and find Colonel Sanders (creator of Kentucky Fried Chicken) buried among several other famous people. Cave Hill Cemetery is listed on the National Register for Historic Places and it is located in our very own Louisville!
6. Take a hike.
Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest has over 35 miles of beautiful trails! Enjoy a relaxing break from the city and take a hike Monday-Friday at no cost.
7. Do you love to skate?
If you love to skate or maybe you have always wanted to learn to skate, visit David Armstrong Extreme Park for 40,000 square feet of outdoor skating surface! Its convenient location makes it fun and accessible to everyone!
8. Visit Waterfront Park.
Waterfront park includes a splash park, playground, Kentucky’s own Lincoln memorial, and art from Kentucky folk artist Marvin Finn. If you stay late enough, find a nice bench to watch the sunset over the river. Waterfront Park hosts many festivals and concerts! Check out the calendar on their website!
9. Go to Indiana.
Are you tired of Louisville, but you don’t know where to go? Why not take a walk to Indiana? That’s right! For no cost at all you can cross the Ohio River on Louisville’s famous Walking Bridge (also known as the Big Four Bridge) and have one foot in Kentucky and one foot in Indiana!
10. 21c Art Museum.
21c Art Museum is home to many modern and contemporary art pieces and best of all the museum is open to the public! It is located on Main Street. Trust me there are many exciting exhibits you have to see!
