1. Visit the Coker Arboretum!

Located conveniently on north campus, the arboretum is a great place to get away from the stress of college life. Whether you want to lounge amongst the flowers and trees or snap a few Instagram worthy photos, this is a must for college students on a budget.

2. Explore The Ackland Art Museum.

The Ackland is wonderful for helping people become more in touch with their artistic side. With over 15,000 objects in their collection ranging from ancient times to modern day pieces, it gives any art novice to expand their repertoire.

 

3. Carolina Union Activities Board film showings.

CUAB is a club dedicated to planning events on campus for the students. One of their committees plans movie showings nearly every weekend. If you’re interested in a movie but can’t afford ticket prices, come check out whatever movie CUAB is showing that weekend!

4. Take pictures at the North Carolina Botanical Garden.

Similar to the arboretum, the NC Botanical Garden is a great place to get away from any day-to-day stress and enjoy the nature around you. It’s one of the most insta-worthy places around The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill!

5. The Carolina Basketball Museum!

This is a great spot for any Carolina basketball fans or just those interested in sports in general. The museum provides artifacts, videos, and photos that chronicle the history of the Carolina Basketball program. They also have tributes to Dean Smith, Roy Williams and the Carolina Family, Tyler Hansbrough, Phil Ford, and Michael Jordan.

6. Carrboro Farmers’ Market

Located in the quaint town of Carrboro, the farmers’ market is a lively place full of local farmers and artisans representing their crafts. It’s a great way to get a sense of the communities surrounding the university in a picturesque way.

 

7. Go for a jog at Riverwalk.

Riverwalk is a paved, accessible greenway that stretches about 1.8 miles. It’s very popular for walking, jogging, and cycling if you’re looking for a place to be active and get out of campus.

Chapel Hill’s most well known attraction is, without a doubt, Franklin Street. This street, which connects directly with campus, is filled with things to do and people to see, providing students with the opportunity to walk around and get to know Chapel Hill.

9. Listen to live music at Weaver Street Market.

Though it may seem strange to suggest an outing to a grocery store, outside the market is expansive seating where you can lounge and watch various events such as live music and hula-hooping locals!

 

10. Take a walk through Carrboro.

Often referred to as the weird, hippie neighbor of Chapel Hill, Carrboro always has something going on. It’s filled with endearing, locally owned stores and artisanal coffee shops that draw in any wayward student.
