From hiking to window shopping there’s a ton of free stuff to do around SCSU for everyone!
You know that mountain you see outside your dorm room? It’s West Rock! Just a few minutes away from campus this is the perfect place to take a hike. At the top point you can see all of New Haven. So grab your gang and spend a day up at West Rock.
Every summer the New Haven green is home to shows of great musicians of all genres. Past performers include Earth, Wind, and Fire, Clay Aiken, and And guess what? It’s completely FREE! This years lineup includes The Wailers and Rusted Root.
A shopper’s dream! Not only is this the perfect scenic route, it’s the perfect place to window shop for your next fit. With stores like Urban Outfitters, Barbour, J. Crew, and Lou Lou, it’s the perfect place to look for style inspo.

The tower at Sleeping Giant is one of the highest points in Connecticut at 738ft! Just a few exits away from campus this is another great way to spend your day bonding with friends!
Friends with an astronomy major or just obsessed with the universe? Then you both will love the free planetarium shows at Leitner! They are presented each Sunday afternoon at 3pm and Tuesday nights at 7pm and 8 pm. Get there early because it’s a first come, first serve basis. So grab some of your girls and go reach for the stars!
Want a beautiful escape from campus but can’t afford a full vacation? Take a trip down to Silver Sands. It’s a beautiful scenery and view of Long Island Sound! Love animals? Silver Sands has a diverse wildlife including deer, turkeys, and foxes. This beach at sunset is one of the most beautiful views ever! A picture of here on sunset is definitely insta-worthy!
Are you a Gossip Girl fan? Visit Blair’s dream school! Yale is one of the top Ivy League schools in the country and is world renowned. With so many great people as alumni just one visit will make you feel prestige! Alumni include James Franco, Hillary Clinton, Anderson Cooper, and George W. Bush.
