San Diego State University is an amazing school in a fun and diverse city full of things to do–many of which are free and definitely within a college budget! Here are 10 free things to do around San Diego State University.
San Diego has some of the most beautiful sunsets and on pretty much any given night you can turn watching the sunset into a fun thing to do with your friends. Bring food, take pictures, or just enjoy each others company and some gorgeous scenery. Some of my favorite places to watch the sunset include the popular Sunset Cliffs in Point Loma, La Jolla Cove, the third floor of the Conrad Prebys Student Union or the the Zura Hall rooftop.
Balboa Park is a short drive away from SDSU and has a plethora of things to do. Many of the museums offer free days once a month but there are always free guided tours that will show you all that the most famous park in San Diego has to offer including gardens, architecture, and restaurants.
On Saturday mornings, the Little Italy Farmers Market is the place to be. Pick up some pretty flowers, grab lunch or just walk around! Free samples, so many cute dogs and unique vendors make for a fun weekend excursion just a trolley ride away from SDSU.
San Diego has 17 miles of coastline and many unique and beautiful beaches that satisfy every kind of beach goer from surfers to sand castle builders. A beach day spent at Windansea, Pacific Beach, La Jolla Shores or any other San Diego beach is sure to be relaxing and fun.
If you have an Aztec Recreation Center membership you have access to the Aquaplex at SDSU! The Aquaplex has a beach entry pool, many areas to lay out and tan, a hot tub and much more! It is the perfect place to spend a sunny day on campus and not spend extra money.
San Diego is home to many unique and scenic trails that are definitely a free and fun place to spend your time. Get a good workout, take in some gorgeous views and explore the outdoors at Torrey Pines, Potato Chip rock, Mission Trails regional park are just some of the best places to take a hike close to SDSU.
Old Town is an essential place to visit in San Diego that you can totally walk around and enjoy without spending any money. There are fun shops and unique things to see that give you a feel of what like San Diego was like years ago. Be sure to check out the historical homes in Heritage Park as well! If you want to, there are also great authentic Mexican food places.
If you have an ARC membership, be sure to take advantage of the fun group fitness classes at no extra charge! Cardio dance, vinyasa yoga, barre blast and spin are just a few of the many fun classes at a variety of levels taught by highly qualified instructors. Be sure to get in line a few minutes early as they tend to fill up quickly!
SDSU has a prestigious athletic department with several talented teams. The games are fun and free for students! Basketball games are super popular and try your best to get as close to the court as possible so you can be apart of the legendary student section- The Show! Football season is tailgate season for sure and Qualcomm is just a quick trolley ride away. Baseball games are also fun way to spend a relaxing afternoon.
The SDSU turtle pond by Scripps Cottage is a tranquil and beautiful spot on the SDSU campus. It is perfect for studying, eating lunch, catching up with a friend or for artists and writers to have creative inspiration. The turtles are often basking in the sun and the area around the pond and cottage is perfect for people watching and just killing time in between class.
