Fourth Of July Events Around Austin You Can Take The Family To

Staying home and blowing up things in the local cul-de-sac is fun, but maybe you’re looking for a less expensive and dangerous gambit this year. Why watch with poorly concealed fear as the neighbor kids shoot roman candles and drag sparklers on the lawn when you can pretend that the fire ban stops people from shooting fireworks in a place further from home. Here’s some events going on this year that you should be prepared for.

1. Austin Symphony Concert

The big thing to go do is to fight the crowds and give your children the awesome experience of watching a huge firework show. The only thing I recommend is to Uber because it is indeed, quite busy. Deck out in your best red white and blue gear, grab some chips, and go have a late night snack on the grass.

2. Congress Avenue Bridge

The bridge is famous for the bats, so head out there if you want to check two Austinite things off of your to-do list! Watch people shoot off fireworks from afar and arrive around sunset so that you can see the bats curling across the big pink sky. Just be sure to stay safe, there’s quite a lot of traffic. This is Austin, after all.

3. Westlake 4th of July Parade

Starting at 9 am by Northstar Bank, the Westlake parade is a free event for all ages in which a plethora of activities will be going on. Advertised to have bouncy castles, live music, and lots more after the parade, there is even a costume contest in which pets are viable to enter. Breakfast tacos and ice cream are both being vendor-ed for the parade so don’t miss out! Bring the family and start out your holiday right.

4. Round Rock Frontier Days

This parade in Round Rock is widely acclaimed and visited by many folks from all over. There’s carnival games, a pepper eating contest, movies in the park (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), fireworks, and an award to be presented to one group of participants in the parade! Whether it be the equestrians, bands, cheer leading squads, or another group, the amount of elbow grease which goes into putting on this parade really shows. This year, let you and your family be some of the 20,000 attendees and give it a try.

5. San Marcos SummerFest

Along the banks of the river, bring your family to come watch live music, enjoy a parade, and participate in the kid’s patriotic costume contest. Food vendors, fireworks, and free parking, what more could a Fourth of July enthusiast ask for? Bring some inner tubes and bathing suits to go hang out in the river beforehand! Due to the well-chosen location, there is no need to stand in the hot sun while you’re waiting for the magic to happen. Head down and take a dip with the kids, then stay to watch the fireworks later. All in a good day’s work, this event.

6. Pflugerville Pfirecracker Pfestival

Wow, wasn’t that a mouthful to read? I’m not joking when I say it takes place at “The Pfield” either. There’s a kid’s area with games, crafts, and face-painting, as well as many different food trucks and live music. It’s free admission so come on out and enjoy a nice time watching pfireworks. Did I mention fireworks? Of course it has fireworks, it’s the Fourth of July.

7. Round Rock Express Independence Day

What’s more all-American than taking your kids to watch their home team play a game of baseball this Fourth of July? The Dell Diamond is stocked, from a sports court to a pool and spa area, there’s also so much food that you can’t go hungry. After the game, there’s a firework show and fans are allowed to run around the bases on the field while live music plays, all for free.

Go check out some of the Fourth of July events coming to our city! Get out of the house for some much-needed family fun.
