There gets to a point where pop tarts and ramen noodles become an unexpectable daily combo. As an adult we all must learn to cook at some point, so why not today! Here are 10 foods to learn to make as an adult.

1. Chicken Parmesan

  • Preheat oven to 400º.
  • Make chicken: Prepare breading station with three large mixing bowls: one bowl with panko, garlic powder, and Parmesan mixed with a fork; another with the egg mixture; and the third bowl with flour.
  • Season chicken with salt and pepper, then coat each piece of chicken in flour and shake off excess.
  • Dip chicken into egg mixture and then into bread crumb mixture; repeat steps for remaining chicken and set aside on a plate.

  • Add onion and garlic and cook until soft, 4 minutes.
  • Add in tomatoes and water, season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes, and let simmer, 10 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir in parsley.
  • Pour sauce into a 9″-x-13″ baking dish and place chicken in sauce. Top with mozzarella and bake until cheese is melty, 10 to 12 minutes.
  • If desired, broil until cheese is golden, 3 minutes.
  • Garnish with parsley and serve immediately.

  • Cook first 4 ingredients in a large skillet over medium-high heat, stirring until beef crumbles and is no longer pink; drain. Place mixture in 5-quart slow cooker; stir in beans and remaining ingredients. Cook at HIGH 3 to 4 hours or at LOW 5 to 6 hours.

  • sauce – noodles – cheese

  • In a large bowl, combine the beef, egg, onion, milk, and bread OR cracker crumbs. Season with salt and pepper to taste and place in a lightly greased 9×5-inch loaf pan, or form into a loaf and place in a lightly greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • In a separate small bowl, combine the brown sugar, mustard, and ketchup. Mix well and pour over the meatloaf.

  • Stir in the cooled pasta until combined and pasta is fully coated with the cheese sauce.
  • Pour half of the mac and cheese into the prepared baking dish. Top with remaining 2 cups of shredded cheese and then the remaining mac and cheese.

  • To a large non-stick skillet or wok, add the oils, shrimp, and cook over medium-high heat for about 3 minutes, flipping halfway through.   • In a medium bowl, beat eggs until no whites remain, then season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • In a medium non-stick skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Pour in eggs and tilt the pan so eggs fully cover the entire pan. As eggs start to set, use a rubber spatula to drag cooked edges into the center of the pan. Tilt the pan to let the uncooked egg fall to the edge of the pan.

  • Position 2 racks in the center of the oven, and preheat to 375 degrees F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment.
  • Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and 1 teaspoon salt in a large bowl.
  • Beat the butter and both sugars on medium-high speed in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment (or in a large bowl if using a handheld mixer) until light and fluffy, about 4 minutes. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition to incorporate. Beat in the vanilla. Scrape down the side of the bowl as needed. Reduce the speed to medium, add the flour mixture and beat until just incorporated. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • Scoop 12 heaping tablespoons of dough about 2 inches apart onto each prepared baking sheet. Roll the dough into balls with slightly wet hands. Bake, rotating the cookie sheets from upper to lower racks halfway through, until golden but still soft in the center, 12 to 15 minutes (the longer the cooking time, the crunchier the cookies). Let cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet, and then transfer to a rack to cool completely.
  • Let the baking sheets cool completely, scoop the remaining dough onto 1 sheet, and bake. Store the cookies in a tightly sealed container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
