Foods That Are Indispensable For Sunday Brunch

Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a warm homemade Sunday brunch? When it comes to brunch, there are obvious foods that are indispensable in order to end the meal feeling both full and satisfied. Be sure to include these essential foods in your next Sunday brunch.

1. Waffles

The first thing that comes to mind when someone says “brunch”, is waffles. Waffles are the brunch staple and a must-have. Brunch is the perfect meal because it comes either sweet or savoury or both! If you’re in the mood for something sweet, bust out the waffle maker and buy some yummy toppings!

2. Eggs Benedict

Eggs Benedict is perfect if you’re in the mood for a more savoury brunch. This staple brunch food is so simple to make and is so easily cust0mizable! This dish is also able to tackle all of the food groups, leaving you feeling full but not bloated.

3. Smoothies

Brunch is usually a meal of bread and carbs, so adding a smoothie to the mix offers a break from all the indulgent food with a fresh kick of fruit and/or vegetables. Smoothies are great because they too can be easily catered to your personal preferences. Whether you like all fruit smoothies, vegetable smoothies, or smoothies chock-full of peanut butter, making a smoothie is always a good and healthy brunch choice.

4. Chocolate Croissant

Personally, I see brunch as an excuse to eat copious amounts of carbs and sweets and not feel bad about it, mostly because brunch is considered a hangover meal. A chocolate croissant is a warm piece of flaky paradise that will leave you feeling satisfied with sugar and carbs all day.

5. Avocado Toast

If you prefer to take a healthier route when it comes to brunch, avocado toast is the trendy ideal. This dish is easily customizable, meaning you can add anything from an egg on top to hummus on the bottom. Avocado toast is easy to prepare and leaves you feeling full of healthy fats.

6. Coffee

Technically coffee is not a food, I know. But the key to wrap up a successful brunch (or, let’s be honest, any meal) is with a coffee perfectly brewed to your liking. Not only can coffee serve as a dessert, but it can also help you tackle the inevitable food coma that is to come after a filling Sunday brunch.

7. Oatmeal

Brunch is a time for indulgence, and when I think of a pampering brunch, I think of a warm and comforting meal. Therefore, oatmeal is a perfect way to start your day in a soothing way. Oatmeal is incredibly versatile, giving you the option to add any fruits you desire, seasonings like cinnamon, or other toppings such as nuts or seeds.

8. French Toast

If waffles or pancakes aren’t really your thing, break out the bread and cinnamon and fried up some soft, ooey-gooey french toast! Like most other breakfast/brunch foods, french toast can be altered to your personal preference by adding seasonings such as cinnamon and nutmeg to the batter, or by topping it with your favourite fruit.

9. Chocolate Chip Pancakes

A childhood classic: the chocolate chip pancake. Chocolate chip pancakes meet the dream breakfast checklist of being warm, fluffy, and filled with chocolate. What more could you really ask for? Drizzle some maple syrup on these bad boys and indulge!

10. Omelettes

Omelettes, the powerhouse brunch food in terms of bulking up on nutrients. Feel free to add any, literally any, vegetable you can think of to an omelette. Peppers? Yes. Onion? Yep. Spinach? Oh yeah, baby. Get your nutritional fix with a hearty and filling omelette.

The saying goes that brunch is the most important meal of the day, right? What are your staple Sunday brunch foods? Which of these foods do you find indispensable? Let us know in the comments!
